How to post pictures in the General
Discussion Board
- First you need to make sure that your image
is the correct format. Files with the extension of .gif, .jpg or .jpeg are
acceptable. Files with extensions such as .tiff or .bmp will not work
- Secondly you need to have the properly
sized image. The image can be no larger than 640 pixels wide by 480 pixels
high. Smaller is acceptable. There are many programs that you can use to
resize your image. Some are free and some you have to pay for. I am sorry,
but I do not have a list of them, I suggest a google search for imaging
programs out there that can help. I will add that it is a good thing to
either write down the location of the image(s) that you want to post on a
piece of paper, or remember their exact location on your hard drive because
you will need that at the last step in this process.
- Once you have the correct file type and
size you are ready to post them on the board! To do that you need insert the
proper syntax (text message to the computer) within the body of your
message. The proper syntax is: \image{file
name} Please
note that you are talking to a computer not a human. The computer cannot interpret
you are saying like a human might, so you need to use the exact
characters in the exact manner stated above. You must use all lower case for
the word "image" and be sure to use the "\"
key, NOT the "/" key.
Also be sure to use the "{}" keys and not keys like "[
]" or "( )". Also do not leave a space between the word image
and
the "{ }". What
you put inside the { } is actually not important, I know that seems kind of
confusing, but it just does not matter what you put inside the { }. You can put the actual
file name or just something that helps identify the image, it does not
matter, the computer program does not use this info for posting the image,
so you can type anything in there that you want.
- You can also insert text into the message
containing the image,
just as you would in a post on the board that does not contain an image. Just be aware that the
relation of the text to the syntax for the image will be the relation you
get once the image is posted in the message. Meaning if you want the text to
be above the image in the final product of your post, be sure to put your
text above the syntax for the image. Once you have entered in the correct
syntax and any text you want, then you hit the "Preview/Post"
button, just as you would to create a regular text message.
- You should then at the Preview Page. The
text "Preview: New Message" should be at the very top of the page, your text
(if you put any in the message) and an image that looks like this:

will be in the brown message box and you have two
buttons below that: One being "Post this Message: the other being
"Cancel Post". Below that, you also have the white box with your
text and syntax in it and you can edit it there if you need to and hit the
"Preview/Post" button. I can add that if you do not see the ,
you do not have the correct syntax. You need to go back and check to make
sure you have everything right. If you are ready, click on the "Post
this Message" you are taken to the next step.
- At this next step you should be at a screen
that looks like this:

In the box to the left of the "Browse" button you need to type in
the location of the image, but unless you have done this before and know the
exact syntax for the image location it is best to click on the
"browse" button to locate the image you want to display on the
message board. This browse function works the same as most and once you have
located the image and clicked on OK, you will be take back to the page
displayed above, but this time the proper syntax for the location of the
image will be inside the box next to the browse button and you are just
about there! At this point all you need to do is click on the
"Upload" button and your message with the image will be posted.
