My wife heard that the smaller the flake the more snow you would get. I always thought the bigger the flake the fluffier.

Typically the larger the flake, the more they pile up, at least initially. With larger flakes, you end up with more air space between them once they fall. That air space leads to a larger accumulation. However, over time, the air gets squished out and the snow settles.
