By firez10 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 12:07 pm: Edit Post One day just surfing for snowmobile and snow stuff I came across the site. Having relatives that live up there I became interested and appreciated John's passion and work and have been here since. lurking for at least two years and posting for the last few. By tomxc700 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 12:07 pm: Edit Post a search for trail reports By snowlover on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 12:08 pm: Edit Post Found it back in 2000 while searching the web for snowmobile sites and snowmobiling pictures. By coldone on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 12:13 pm: Edit Post Was at a bar & picked this chic up & ended up at her cabin for a few drinks. One thing led to another! During all of this I noticed she had a John Dee .com tatoo on her lower back! I'll never forget that moment! What a site! By rusty1577 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 12:26 pm: Edit Post looking for trail reports on snowtracks.com and everyone was talking about this site and all the web cams... By snowangel03 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 02:44 pm: Edit Post I'm a lot like the rest - I was doing a search for snow conditions and found this site. I think that was back in 2000. I know John had just recently started the site!! What a long way he's come!!! By zimmbob on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 03:08 pm: Edit Post Buddy at work told me about it, because I was complaining that I wished I could find out if the snow was going to be o.k. for a trip we had planned to go to Chassel. That was probably about 6 years ago. Just watched the snow depths, read, and enjoyed gathering information. Then finally got into it and signed up and it's been great ever since. Not as busy as some of you on here, but it sure is a wealth of information and a great set of users. Very grounded and honest people, both members, and supporters. Not sure other sites can say the same thing. Looking at some of them, there are a lot of haters, bashers, and just rude people on them. Good too, but not like JohnDee.com! By goingnorth on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 03:35 pm: Edit Post Not exactly sure either, that was a while back. It was either sledding.com or trailconditions.com and someone posted the link for UP snow reports. By fuller1980 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 03:50 pm: Edit Post Back in the winter of 99/00 I did a search about snow and low and behold a site called John Dees snow central popped up and I clicked on in and I have been a frequent visitor ever since. And as always Thank You John For such a Great Site! By doo_dr on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 04:32 pm: Edit Post While looking for PORN!!! By indy_500 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 04:43 pm: Edit Post my dad found it in 04 and heard about it from a guy at work By doug_miller on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 04:44 pm: Edit Post Heard about it from a friend during the 03 season I believe. Glad to have it because now there is no need to be on facebook. My friends are here. By polarisman_98 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 04:54 pm: Edit Post I think someone had it linked from trailconditions.com about 4 years ago and I checked it out. Just read the journals and watched the webcams for the last 4 years. I just started checking out the forums a few months ago and I'm sure glad I did. Lost of helpful info and good people on here! By dew69 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 05:03 pm: Edit Post One of my sledding buddies found it around 2003 and told me about it. Been hooked ever since! By samc on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 08:46 pm: Edit Post alcohol is always involved it seems. By skylar on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 08:57 pm: Edit Post maddog, I spent too much time on here! LOL. Just kidding. I dunno, I started asking John lots of weather related questions, I always tried to help other people on the site as much as I could, John and I had a few e-mail conversations, then he said, well the next time your up, we should hook up for a ride. So, we did. March of 2004. I now consider John a very good friend. I am pretty sure the internet is responsible for lots and lots of friendships. By carole on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 09:06 pm: Edit Post About seven or eight years ago someone mentioned this site on Pasty cam, so I tried it and have been hooked ever since even though I do not snowmobile. From the first I liked the topics John wrote about, his pictures of walks with Burt and Baileys and of the snow. By rvahlsing on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 09:29 pm: Edit Post herd about it from rusty 1577 By sledboy1982 on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 09:45 pm: Edit Post co-worker told me about this site By snoluver on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 09:49 pm: Edit Post I was talking sled talk one day at work with one of the "old timers". He was telling me these crazy stories about this magical place where he grew up and how it snowed from Dec-april EVERY year with very few thaws in between. He told me there was so much snow so often that he would ride his sled 60 miles to work each day in the winter, because it was actualy easier and faster than taking his car. I asked him where this magical place was and how do I get there. He told me of a man he new named John who lived right near where he grew up. Said he was a transplant from Park Ridge, not a local, but that he started a web site with quite a bit of info on the area. I logged on that night, I think 1998/99. I don't think there was even a discusion board at that point. I have been on this site every day since. By sledneck_jay on Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 10:57 pm: Edit Post cant believe no one mentioned this.. By 2000sxr700 on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 01:22 am: Edit Post My insurance guy and fellow snowmobiler hooked me up in '02. But i did not register until '07. just checked trail reports and other peoples ramblings prior to '07. Been an addict ever since! probably 3-4 times a day when J-D does the winter stuff. By polarisrider1 on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 06:02 am: Edit Post Thank you sledneck jay for the memory jog. Found out about JD on one or more of my "Born to Ride" video collection. By mikey on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 06:48 am: Edit Post Shortly after my first experience on a snowmobile I started scouring snowmobile sites. I came across a thread about weather and there was a comment to the originator "Who do you think you are John Dee?" So I set out to find out who this John Dee guy was and got hooked the first time I opened the site. By brapmaster on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 08:04 am: Edit Post Back in 04 I think. I was looking for "Copper Harbor Cams" and found Sharon Smith's "A View From the Field" site. She had this site as one of her favorites, and the rest is history. Now I am an addict just like the rest of you, and I haven't even had a sled for 7 years!! By dab102999 on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 09:15 am: Edit Post I think coldone wins!!!! By brad_2001 on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 09:23 am: Edit Post Looking for snow conditions for the UP back in winter of 2000. By swanee on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 09:43 am: Edit Post Someone mentioned it on trailconditions.com back in 2000 and I have been here ever since. Haven't been back to trailconditions.com since then. Got tired of Loudhandle. I've been here several times a day since then. My wife thinks I have a secret friend named John Dee that she has never met. Seriously. By famousguy on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 09:47 am: Edit Post I heard about it around 1999-2000 I think. By dafuzz on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 10:35 am: Edit Post A link somebody posted on SnoWest recently. By man_scout on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 10:53 am: Edit Post My addiction started when a friend began attending MTU in 2002 and shared the site with me. I've been a daily visitor since then and even more now since I finally registered this spring and can also access the site through my Blackberry. By harlybob on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 01:00 pm: Edit Post Winter of 99, great site. Lots of info. By yooper on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 04:07 pm: Edit Post Learned about it from a friend of mine on the GM Forum for techs. Daily visitor since 06....96 By lofsfire on Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:00 am: Edit Post A friend asked me to go on a sled trip to Caddy with him. He gave me a website to check conditions on which was shut down two weeks after I starts looking at it. Can remember the name, it was like; Dan's Sledding page Maybe Stan, I don't know but that led me to the fishweb which let me to here, some how. That was back in the 99-2000 season. I bought my sled the next fall and was then checking John's reports daily. Took me a few years to sign up but I was around. By polarisrider1 on Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:38 am: Edit Post lofsfire, was it Jeffs web page? That was big before JD. I think Jeffs page directed me to JD site when Jeff who worked for a College was running a snowmobile site that grew way bigger than he had time to mess with, sent us off to John Dee site. John am I correct? By lvr1000 on Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 08:09 am: Edit Post Like many, came across the link while viewing snow & trail conditions and have been hooked ever since. Took me awhile to be a participator, I enjoyed just sitting back and watching. By frnash on Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 11:46 am: Edit Post lvr1000: By maj16 on Saturday, October 17, 2009 - 12:00 pm: Edit Post Co worker told me about it when I was selling a sled. Have not gone more than 2 days without checking since! By lofsfire on Sunday, October 18, 2009 - 12:18 am: Edit Post polarisrider1 ~ Jeff's may have been the name of the site. If I remember right it was just a list of places on a light blue background and I think it had an effect to make it look like it was snowing. Now that I think about it I think Stan was the name of the guy I rented the sled form in Caddy. It was a place called Norther Brass in Mesick. By snow_rider on Sunday, October 18, 2009 - 08:12 am: Edit Post Friend told me about it in 2002, don't do many post, but enjoy looking at the cams and reading what others have to say about the great sport of snowmobiling. By caged_beagle on Sunday, October 18, 2009 - 07:56 pm: Edit Post All my friends from Illinois to Wisc to The Yoop were talking about it, so i finally thought I would check it out about a year ago. I don't post alot on here but am religously checking the site (especially the cams) during the winter months, that's for sure. By jareeb on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 - 08:18 pm: Edit Post from indy500 By rmkking on Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 03:44 pm: Edit Post I have the same story as COLDONE She said I was the first guy she ever met at the bar, she was such a liar. By m10_mike on Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 04:18 pm: Edit Post Swanee told me about it back in 2000. It's been my home page now for over 9 years. My computer looks wierd if John Dee isn't up in the corner. By daytonsnogoer on Thursday, October 22, 2009 - 06:15 pm: Edit Post I found it through trail cam on keeweenaw.info. I was looking for a place to go snowmobiling in 2004, found Evert's rentals and clicked the links. Three clicks later and here I am.
