General Discussions: Ride Board: Nobody is setting up there rides for next year yet ?

By snoluver on Friday, August 08, 2008 - 08:36 pm: Edit Post

Since someone decided to erase the longest running thred ever, I thought I would start a new one. ZRTforme you out there? My thumb is startin to twitch a little. How did you like the new sled after a full season? Been thinking about one of those Asault contraptions. Maybe with a different track.

By nitroman on Sunday, August 10, 2008 - 10:59 pm: Edit Post

I was looking for this post also. Getting the thumb twitch also. Spent the weekend on the sandbar with ZRT4me talking sleds and planning the 09 rides. ZRT picked up an M7 this spring and is absolutly ready to ride. I picked up a Dragon 700 last year at this time and put about 1000m on it out west and I love it. We are headed out in January and Febuary with a wildcard trip in March or April depending on the snow. Last season was fantastic our January trip started with 36" of fresh snow when we got there and it kept snowing the first two days, honest to god chest deep snow by day 3. The febuary trip saw hard packed conditions with pockets of powder but still fun none the least. April was the the most perfect snow I ever had the chance to ride 24" fresh the day before we arrived with another 12-18 the first day we were there the second day we had the mountain to ourselves it seemed untracked meadows of fresh everywhere and some great climbs in total fresh powder I didn't want to go home but what a way to end the season.

By zrt4me on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 - 11:59 pm: Edit Post

Like nitroman said, picked up the M7 in April and have been wrenching on and staring at it since. January can't come fast enough. I think he covered everything else pretty well too!
Wyoming Rocks!

Ordered some new stuff for the M7 but haven't started wrenching on it yet. Going to tune the clutching with some new springs this year, port the track, and maybe some new skis or a Boss seat.

Daughter was given a Formula S with a blown motor.
Got most of the parts and she keeps hounding me to get it fixed so she can ride it this year!
I always say winter can't come fast enough. But, with this busy summer it feels like it will be here before I know it.
Working on the sled hauler this week. Getting rid of the rusty rims and putting aluminum ones on. Tire store nearby gave me a heck of a deal. (couldn't pass it up!)

By snoluver on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 09:33 pm: Edit Post

Sorry Nitro, I thought it was zrt that picked up the Dragon. It's been a while I guess. All I could remember about the thred was green writing and ZRT " for me". Anyway, made one trip to the snowies and my riddin buds made another out to Alpine, which is a little south of Jackson Hole. They said it was untouched powder around every corner for miles and miles. Not sure if it was just the exceptional year or if it's like that all the time, but we figure we'll give that a try again this year and find out if it was just a fluke or not. Long drive though. 26 hours in the truck!!

My M6 is in the garage now, its been there since I cooked it last March. Got the new track in last week, (powerclaw162), got killer deal on a replacement top end. Redesigned the tunnel extension and shedded some more weight. Oh almost forgot, bought back my old Summit X6. I'll try to put some pics in later if anyones interested.

By skylar on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 09:37 pm: Edit Post

Post some pics up Dave!

I will be putting a set of Powderhounds on my RMK, and my brother has added a boss seat, 2 wheel axle kit, ceramic coated his stock pipe, Skinz ultra Q can, and Straightline Performance y-pipe to his 08 M8. Can't wait for December and the first ride of the year!

By zrt4me on Thursday, September 11, 2008 - 01:11 am: Edit Post

Skylar,
Can we talk sometime about hooking up around Twin Lakes? I know that the riding areas you guys have up there are about like area 51 but I need some people to ride with closer than Wyoming and would take any suggestions on good spots to start out.
Shoot me an e-mail some time.
Thanks,
Z

Anyone planning any trips out west for late November or early December?

By tedwardo123 on Sunday, September 14, 2008 - 05:12 pm: Edit Post

The last 5 years we've brought our sleds to Duluth for the Sno Cross, then we goto my cabin near Lutsen. I think we're at 2 out of 5 years where we've been riding Thanksgiving weekend. When we ride it's on fire roads with a minimum of about 8" of snow. Each of the two years with snow I've seen the same folks out riding.

For the last two years my brother and I have been the first to arrive for the season at the Trestle Inn (www.trestleinn.com) via snowmobile.

The Yukon trail is very rocky so this past year we rode there on a Friday night and sent really slow as there was about 12" of fluffy stuff but lots-o-rocks. That night it started snowing and didnt' stop until 48 hours later after which we had 20" of new snow. What a great year we had last year in Northern MN, at least near Lake Superior.!!

Hopefully this year provides for more "once in a lifetime" dumps of snow. We experienced 12" overnight snowfalls on 3 different trips north this past riding season....

Dave, what did you do, run the Boondocker box a little lean?

Also, you will have to let us know how the new track works out.

Nice job on the tunnel modification also.

Zrt4me, yea, when the season gets closer maybe we can hook up for a ride or something.

By zrt4me on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 - 11:08 pm: Edit Post

kingofmountain,
Are you going to port the new track? I just put a new Attack 20 on mine and am not sure if I should run it first to stretch out or just port it now?

Just finished up puting the Black Boxx on mine. Can't wait to run it!

Z

By nitroman on Thursday, September 18, 2008 - 10:12 pm: Edit Post

Can't wait to see if it can hang with the Dragon!!
See ya tommorow night I'm bringing boondockers 3,4,and 5 and a powerful thirst

By kingofmountain on Friday, September 19, 2008 - 08:55 pm: Edit Post

Thats the plan, and I also plan on runnin' it backwards, for max grip. For the portin',I don't plan on going as aggressive as I did on the A20. We'll see how it works, I'll keep everyone posted.

By zrt4me on Sunday, September 21, 2008 - 10:36 pm: Edit Post

Sweet,,,let me know the pattern you use. The last track on the sled had the same pattern as in your picture with the two outside holes over the rear track wheels. I'm thinkin thats not the way I want to go??.
I'm just nervous about stickin holes in this thing.

Got a few additions for the new ride sittin in the garage right now. Just waitin for the sled to get here!!

Nitro - Depends on where the snow flies first. haha. Would love to get out west late November or sometime in the first half of December, but not sure if I'll be able to swing a trip like that by then.

By nitroman on Thursday, October 02, 2008 - 08:29 pm: Edit Post

Well the Dragon is almost ready. Pulled the decals, polished the tunnel, new riser, 2 cool air vents, hand guards, and a new can on the way!!

Talked the decal guy tonight they are in the works plus a couple fly logos and my name on the wind screen all black of course !

HARDING!! Where you at? You ready to head west yet? You can't keep putting me off you know. Eventually we are going to run out of next years. We have a couples trip going to the Big Horns in march if you want to ride your own gear and bring Dori. We are also heading to the Snowies Jan 21st-24th and Feb 22nd-25th. pick a date and commit I promise you will have a good time. If we have to resort to kidnapping we just might!

Well, I pulled the trigger!! Bought a '09 crossfire snopro. After two years without a sled I just could't take it anymore. I can't help it. Its a disease.

I'm flippin itchin baaaaddd!!

Snoluver - Congrats, and welcome back to the addiction! Throw up some pics.

By zrt4me on Friday, November 14, 2008 - 08:47 pm: Edit Post

Congrats!! I know the feeling. I need to get to riding this thing soon so I can stop adding stuff.
The longer it sits in the garage, the more I look (stare) at it and think,,,,Yea,,it needs this or that.
I've blown half of next year's mods budget already! LOL

You need to get that thing out west!

By snoluver on Friday, November 14, 2008 - 11:02 pm: Edit Post

Thanks, I'll get a pic up tomorow if I have time.

zrt- so far, the only trip I have planed is out west. Headed to Alpine in march. I was realy debating on wether or not to just go with an M, but after renting long tracks out west the last two years, I relized I had more fun on my "short track" Renegade. Just like the way they jump better, and the way you can whip them around on a dime. I did quite a bit of reseaching, and then crossfire is just about identical to an M except the ski stance is one inch wider, it has a sway bar(soon to be removed)and the lug length. I will most likely get the 2.25" powerclaw for it. It will fit right in and then I basicly have an M 141 which I think will be perfect for my riding style.

By nitroman on Friday, November 14, 2008 - 11:40 pm: Edit Post

March!! Man if I had to wait that long to go out I would be insane by now! Our first is Jan 20 and I am going nuts. We had our yearly planning party(sat in my garage drank, ate, and watched sled vids)and I think that may have compounded the itch tenfold. The x-fire 141 will be great out west we have 2 136's and they have a ball infact one guy highmarked us and he has been gloating since(not this year though right ZRT!!). Save some of that money for the celebratory beverage after you concur the widowmaker ZRT!! If you top it I'll buy unless I top you that is!!!

By zrt4me on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 09:22 am: Edit Post

Hey nitroman,,
Was cruising e-bay and saw these
Stickers and started laughing my butt off. Had to get them.LOL
We'll have to wait and see about the Widowmaker. The idea of climbing that thing doesn't thrill me that much. I can sit and watch Fisher climb it,,,,,,,,,,for 10 minutes, then I'm out!

By snoluver on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 09:25 am: Edit Post

nitro,
March is just the only trip I have "planed" right now. You can be sure there will be a few break in rides up north long before then. Thats another reason I went with the 141. The trees are real tight in the U.P. I figure the shorter track will work a little better up there.

Nice!!
I want to get up to the UP as well this winter,,just don't have anyone at this point to go with me. nitroman is over in Iowa and has a goofy work schedule. My riding buddies around here don't do the off trail stuff(yet).
I have a couple of guys on here I have been e-mailing and hope to hook up with. If you need a riding partner for some off trail stuff, give me a little advanced notice and I may tag along?

By snoluver on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 08:35 pm: Edit Post

zrt,
I'll let you know when I head up. I can't promiss it'll be way in advance though. You gota hit it when its fresh up there. Sometimes that means leaving on a minutes notice and driving 7 hours on a friday night after work. If you time it with the storms you can have just as good a ride as any day out west though. Where in Wisconson are you?

nitro,
you noticed everything except the most important, THE KEGERATOR!!

By cuzzinolaf on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 08:37 pm: Edit Post

Snoluver... You're not too far from me. Where do you ride/stay when you go up? You're right. A lot of trips have to be last minute. That is what sickations are for.

By zrt4me on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 08:42 pm: Edit Post

I'm in Brodhead, due South of Madison 40 miles and just west of Janesville 25.
I wrote to you before about a friend of mine that lives in McHenry(Dinger). It takes him about 1.5 hrs to get to my place from there.
Nice Kegerator. I see by the empties sitting close that it gets used.LOL

By snoluver on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 09:09 pm: Edit Post

We are all relativly close to each other. We should definitly try to hook up. I useally ride north of the bridge(north of Houghton). I know some pretty good spots up that way. I would like to get Skyler to stop being a powder hog and try the Twin lakes area this year,LOL. I keep hearing good things about Twin lakes.

Cuzz, I like to call it the white fever, but sickation works too!! We like to stay at the White house in Mohawk. Real close to the good stuff and reasonable. Bar across the street and breakfest nextdoor. Very minimal trail riding to get to the play spots!!

By zrt4me on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 09:40 pm: Edit Post

Skylar posted above that he may be open to doing some riding. He's in Oxford, close to 39/51 so we could just group up down here and swing into Oxford and kidnap him for a weekend.
He may resist,,,until about Westfield.

By snoluver on Saturday, November 15, 2008 - 09:47 pm: Edit Post

Yeah, I'll second a kidnapping. As long as the powder is falling I doubt he will put up much of a fight, lol!

By nitroman on Thursday, December 04, 2008 - 08:07 pm: Edit Post

Well it's starting to look good out west. 18" or so over the weekend and another foot today. Looks like a repeat of last year(we can only hope) snow started later and just stacked up from there on out. We have about 5"-6" here in Iowa and I'm not positive but I think when I opened the garage door this morning I heard the Dragon snort. She's ready, I'm ready, come on January!

By nitroman on Sunday, December 07, 2008 - 10:06 pm: Edit Post

Why can't I get a forcast like this:

Point Forecast: 15 Miles W Centennial WY
41.32N 106.4W (Elev. 9797 ft)

Monday: Occasional snow and patchy blowing snow, mainly after 11am. Temperature rising to near 26 by noon, then falling to around 16 during the remainder of the day. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Monday Night: Snow and patchy blowing snow, mainly before 11pm. Low around 5. Wind chill values as low . North northwest wind between 5 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

By snoluver on Monday, December 08, 2008 - 05:43 pm: Edit Post

I often ask myself why it is that I live where I do? Every chance I get, I go someplace other than "HERE" to find snow. Why don't I just move to the snow????

I'm dyin ova here!! I don't even have enough to go aerate the lawn

26 days and counting!

By snoluver on Friday, December 26, 2008 - 10:46 am: Edit Post

heading up north tonight. Got a tank full of fuel through the new sled, taking it nice and easy around here. Should be go to go to let her rip up north. can't wait to get her in some powder!!

By nitroman on Friday, December 26, 2008 - 10:20 pm: Edit Post

Whoowho!! I hope all my gear is dry by then! Rough day today on the Iowa trails. Put 90m on in the misty rainy crap. I will say though the Klim wear was flawless, stayed perfectly dry under it but the gloves, helmet, and tunnel bag are a different story... left grip heater took * halfway through the day so I need to get that looked at before we leave but other than that today just proved I am a western rider trapped in the flats of Iowa.

By nitroman on Sunday, January 04, 2009 - 11:16 pm: Edit Post

Two weeks zrt is your right thumb twitching yet? Dragon's at the dealer get the warmer repaired and updates done, gear is mostly packed. Just doing my time and keeping myself busy.

By zrt4me on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 02:01 pm: Edit Post

While I'm really looking forward to the trip, I have not done a thing to prepare yet other than have my oil delivered. LOL
Better get my list of things to do going. Still trying to get my head around the bogging thing my M is doing. I have a few things to look at trying. Grrrrrrrrrr

By snoluver on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 07:26 pm: Edit Post

What did you find out with your clutch? What made it come apart? I want to know what to watch out for. lol.

I got a little taste of powder on the x/fire up north, but it really just made me want the real stuff even more. I can't wait to get this thing out west. Never been on a sled so easy to toss around!!

By zrt4me on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 09:55 pm: Edit Post

One of the three rollers in the spider and a good chunk around it let go. It had been cracked for awhile and it was ready to go at any time. I'm glad it happened before I hauled it 800 + miles!!
I turned the Attack 20 around to the climb position, MUCH better! Now I just have to be careful on braking well in advance.
I know what you mean about bangin through the powder. I was able to get up to Rockland a few weeks back with cuzzinolaf and do some riding.
I think we are down to 15 days to go until we are in the Snowies?

By nitroman on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 10:00 pm: Edit Post

I would say just keep it to the bar the whole time no bogging then right? Did it bog with the old clutch? Anything change between the new one and the old one? Compared to Daves your bog is nothing though. 14 days then you can ride the snot out of it it'll be a fleeting memory after the first powder filled meadow!

By zrt4me on Monday, January 05, 2009 - 10:20 pm: Edit Post

Yea, it had a little bog to it with the old clutch too. I think adding the can made it a little more dramatic.
I did a search on SW and found a few quick things to try before we go west that won't cost any $$ to investergate.
It's not a big deal,,I hope!

By nitroman on Sunday, January 11, 2009 - 10:00 pm: Edit Post

I talked to Dave H and Wayne they both have a little bog like that since they put cans on their 700's. Hookers out for next week he will be moving so it will just be 9 of us. Wayne sunk his in the river today only knee deep but took a while to get it out I guess. Al got his beacon and probe today thought he got a bad one till he figured out the batts they sent were dead... Picked the Dragon up Saturday and took it for a quick spin sure nice to have both heaters again. Fisher got old iron sides out for a confidence ride today and said all is well after removing the accs. 8 days you ready ?

Here is a video of Wayne sinking his.

Changed out weights today and started the gathering of stuff that will go. This week is going to drag on forever.
I will be business traveling Wednesday and Thursday so that should make it go a little faster.
I"m meeting up with cuzzinolaf on Wednesday to pick up his beacon. He graciously asked if I wanted to take his along. We are going to strap that on WJ and give him some lessons so we can ALL be safe.

Forgot to give you guys the snow report from my buddy last week. As usual the snow is best on the back side. Waist to chest deep on top of a rock hard base. Very wind blown up top. Bare road going across libby flats. He said they droped in behind the Quealy warming hut, hopped off to take a leak and went right up to his chin so theres definitly plenty of snow. They got fresh every day they were there with more coming on the day they left. Should be great, but be carefull. Avy danger is still high!!

I have so much trail stuff ready for the HotDogger it's just stupid. Other than stopping for gas at lunch time, I'll be on the mountain,,,,,,,ready to ride with a full belly.

On the lighter side,,,,I spent a few hours on Saturday in our local club's groomer with Joe learning the ins and outs of laying down a ribbon. Now I'm ready to head out and do some grooming in Southern Wisconsin.
I think that once I'm done getting things ready to go to Wyoming tomorrow, I'll head out with the groomer for a few hours!! Yea, I know! They are going to let ME take that puppy out whenever I have the time!! LOL I don't see me getting out of it. And to think that we don't have enough people in our club willing to run the groomer? DUH!

Yup,,,1 to go.

Well we made it back mostly unscathed. Had one tps connector go bad and a few small issues but it was a great trip. ZRT got to feel what 2'-3' of fresh felt like and I think he is spoiled now. Had alot of fun picking some crazy lines through the trees the first 2 days then our snow dance paid off the third day we got snow and the stuckfest began until the greenehorns figured out their limitations and the crossfires found out how far they could go in deep snow before they got stuck. After watching all but zrt and I come home soaked to the core I decided I am a Klim customer for life!! That gear just plain works! I even got the Dragon stuck a few times crazy huh! if you push it hard enough it will get stuck(or if your tekvest hits the kill switch after a off camber sidehill jump)lol! Great trip and counting down to Feb now!!!

YUP!!
Got the 4.5" riser on the M, got it greased and even managed to put a shine back on the tunnel (eat your heart out Cuzzinolaf, you know you like it!).
I also have a new toy to make this trip MUCH more memorable. Even more than the MuffPot. Stay tuned.

Looks to be a stuck fest by the time we get there on Saturday.fatman

By nitroman on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - 10:36 pm: Edit Post

I hope so!! Alot of snow in the forcast last few days and thru thursday. Saturday looks to be perfect sunny and 30's. Talked to Dinger tonight he plans on being here between 4 and 5. Poor Dan is screwed if the powder holds out thru this weekend. If I was him I would be reserving a sled and leaving the pos home but hey it's his deal. We may have to look into splitting up the group for a day if the ol' shorty can't follow us in the trees! See how it goes when we get there. So what's the new toy I can't take the suspense! Do I have to wait until friday?

I planned on bringing mine too. I got two 4G cards for it that will hold 2hrs each. Just have to download the cards to the laptop and start over again!

By nitroman on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 02:39 pm: Edit Post

Does it record in quicktime format? Laptop is a good idea then we can get everyones pics off their camara's before we leave. I got a card reader in mine so it will make it easy. Might bring some blank cd's to burn for others also if I have some. I bought a inverter to power the pc in the truck so we could watch movies also.

By zrt4me on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 07:27 pm: Edit Post

It records in MPEG format. If you have Windows Media Player, it will work.
I have it set up to mount to the top of my helmet with Velcro.

By nitroman on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 09:11 pm: Edit Post

Nice, mine records in quicktime. Got a hole in my visor to mount it with a 1/4-20 bolt just hope the batteries hold up better this trip.

By nitroman on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 10:39 pm: Edit Post

Come on out cuzz if you got a truck and a two place we are leaving friday and got room for ya! Got ya thinking don't we. We've got one truck that is hauling sled in the back no trailer and 3 guys inside plus open space in other trucks. So pack up and head on over. We are staying in the big red house so there is plenty of room.

By cuzzinolaf on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 10:39 pm: Edit Post

I wish I could. You'll have to keep me in the loop if you have any openings in the future. We might head west in March if conditions in the UP aren't good.

By zrt4me on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 - 10:57 pm: Edit Post

nitroman and the group are going to the Bighorns in March.
I found out Feb 2 that my plant is shutting down and I am out of a job April 10.
I may have some options, but will not know until mid March at the earliest so I am out for that trip.

By cuzzinolaf on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 10:00 am: Edit Post

When in March? Nytroman - have you been to the Big Horns before? What are your thoughts on it?

That sucks about your job. I'm sorry to hear that. Good luck on whatever option you might have.

Headed to Alpine second week of march. Going to stop and ride the Sierra Madre's for one day just to break up the drive a bit.

Did you guy's see the pics of the snowies on snow west. HOLY CRAP!! 4-5 feet of fresh running down the trail!! Sleds submarining!!

Sorry about the job Zrt. I know how it feels, and its not a good feeling. Good luck.

Well day one was a stuckfest as we predicted there was no shortage of deep stuff. We didn't venture to far in just played close to the trails and had no problem getting stuck. I was the first of the day no even 10 min from the lodge the dragon buckeded me and down in the trees she went. Had many stucks when poeple came to help you get unstck and became stuck themselves. We called it a day and were back at the cabin at 2:30 drank some beer and i think I was asleep at 7:30. No pics for day one but we will get some today!

Sorry for the lack of a report got back and been busy since. We had a great time even though it was all tracked up. Got a little fresh the last 2 days and dug a little deeper to find some really great stuff. Last day we found the perfect Hill untouched and miles of deep snow just off N and 30 min later one of the guy's blew a chaincase so we went onto rescue mode since it was late in the days and we had a 20 mile tow ahead of us. ZRT ended up out of gas and a few were low and almost out of oil. Needless to say we made it back to albany but had to go rescue ZRT and his sled from the grennrock area. All in all a great trip and getting ready for the Big Horns in a couple weeks. I will post some pics tonight gotta a good one of ZRT triming some trees!

It could happen!?
What are your plans?
Andy?
Taylor?

By cuzzinolaf on Wednesday, June 03, 2009 - 10:41 am: Edit Post

I don't know when I'm going but would really like to in the next few years. I have said that the last few years and just need to find people to commit. I doubt Andy would want to drive that far to ride. I think I could come up with one or two to go but haven't pushed it yet. I'd rather go sooner than later.

By zrt4me on Wednesday, June 03, 2009 - 10:50 am: Edit Post

Well,,,let's see what happens. If not this season, the next. I have a couple guys in my crew that would be willing to make the drive for those conditions. And by then I will be doing cross country driving which could open up possibilities on getting sleds out there.
We have tentative plans on a 5 day - 5 locations ride this year with 4 of us in Colorado.
I love the Snowies, but I want to try someplace else sometime.

By cuzzinolaf on Wednesday, June 03, 2009 - 11:01 am: Edit Post

Where in CO? I really want to hit Togwotee, Idaho, and/or Northwestern Montana this year. We'll have to get together for some boating this year and talk about it. Andy is talking about coming to the Chain. You're more than welcomed to join.

By zrt4me on Wednesday, June 03, 2009 - 11:20 am: Edit Post

I'm not sure of the exact locations, I do know that the Vail area was one of them. nitroman has the details.
Are you out most weekends on the Chain? We'll have to plan a weekend to get over there. I'm on the Miss every weekend possible to burn some gas out of the Baja. Would love to have you over there as well. I'm about 2 hrs from you and 2.5 from the river so, it would probably be a lot easier for us to come to you and drink beer and drive the wife nuts talking about snow.
We'll hook up.

My wife and I are booked Feb 17th-20th at Steamboat Lake Outfitters as well. Had to change up the second part of trip. Hope SLO was a good decision. Nitroman- have you been to SLO yet?

By nitroman on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 11:49 am: Edit Post

This will be our first trip to SLO also. Mike Duffy(avy class instructor) from Snowbigdeal.com says it's a great place to ride though. We were looking for a centrally located place so we could go hit Rabbit Ears pass as well. Didn't like the 50% non-refundable deposit idea but oh well we are locked in now, hope the snow is good!

By snoluver on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 01:50 pm: Edit Post

Nitro,
I have never been to Rabbit Ears, but I have heared several times from several people that it is an absolute zoo on the weekends. Just passing it along. Might want to do the Ears on a weekday.

By fireworks on Friday, October 16, 2009 - 04:33 pm: Edit Post

Found a guide for SLO on snowest.com. He says you can make it as easy or hard as you want too. Varied terrain and good riding for all. RD says we can ride 3 days w/ him and not see the same area twice. Also, RD says to start riding RE by 8am. and get out in front of people. Yeah, I booked and then asked about their cancellation policy. NOT! Either way, a lot of good things have been said about SLO.

Hung out with zrt4me awhile tonight while he was stopped at the Flying J for the night. Talked some sledding and watched Slednecks 12. Sure gonna miss him on the mountain this season! Might have to send him some picture messages while we are out there, would that be mean?

By cuzzinolaf on Thursday, November 19, 2009 - 10:59 pm: Edit Post

How is Carlton doing? I have his beacon still. I'll be using it Jan. 10th to the 16th unless he requests it back. FYI. My beacon/probe is all for you guys if needed and I'm not out west.

By nitroman on Friday, November 20, 2009 - 04:04 pm: Edit Post

He's doing well and really enjoying his new job. Doesn't look like he will get much if any ride time this year though! 6 days a week on the road now but he get's vacation next year. I stocked him up on sled mag's to get his fix and told him we would take the video cam along. Same goes for me if you need an extra beacon and probe let me know! We will be in Colorado Jan 9th-14th where you gonna be?

By cuzzinolaf on Friday, November 20, 2009 - 06:55 pm: Edit Post

Ahhhh, you guys going to try a bunch of places in Colorado? I think I remember Carlton saying thats what you guys were doing. We'll be in Togwotee this time. I am not sure how many trips west I'll get this year.

By nitroman on Friday, November 20, 2009 - 09:51 pm: Edit Post

We were but now it's just Steamboat Lake area and Rabitt Ears Pass. Our group went from 4 to 11 as it usually does so the logistics got to be more difficult for that type of trip. Looks like 2 trips for sure maybe a 3rd in march depending on the work schedule. Got some new sleds in the group more are stepping up to mountain sleds only 1 crossfire left in the group and we are working him pretty hard(he can afford it!)so we will see. Got the itch pretty bad I need to stop watching all those sled vid's

By zrt4me on Saturday, November 21, 2009 - 09:48 am: Edit Post

You can hang onto the beacon Cuzz and send it to nitroman if his group needs it whenever.
The new job is going good. Starting to settle into the truck driving thing. It is stressfull at times but overall I dig it.
I am seeing more and more pick ups out there pulling sled trailers and it just makes me jealous!

I am still keeping your offer for the place in the U.P. in mind cuzz. That may be my only chance to ride this year?

By cuzzinolaf on Saturday, November 21, 2009 - 10:31 am: Edit Post

My friend Jay started driving around the same time you did. He has called me from Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and all over just to say he can see snow on the mountain tops. Let me know when you're thinking of coming up and we'll figure it out. You're always welcomed.

Nitroman- when are you going to SLO? We have reservations for Feb 20th -27th. We have a guide for 3 days and will be tracking with my 76cxs. If you go after we go i can share may maps if you want. Or if you go out first, please give me an update. Thanks,

Will do fireworks. We are leaving Jan 8th. I bring the gps along to find my way home but I will try and mark the good spots we find!

By nitroman on Monday, November 23, 2009 - 10:06 pm: Edit Post

Well the White Knuckle Motorsprts crew has some new iron this year:
1 traded up to a 2010 M8 SnoPro
1 traded up to a 2010 HCR
and the last traded up to a 2007 M100 SnoPro
Just 2 Crossfires left in the group and one is looking to trade up to a M8 SnoPro so it should be a good season. If only we could skip December and go straight to January!
