View Full Version : Dropping gas prices
09-30-2008, 04:42 PM
Gas prices continue down in our area (see GAS BY ZIP) $3.19 / gallon in Wyoming MN 55013
Maybe the failing "bail-out" has something to do with it.
09-30-2008, 06:30 PM
3.38 this morning in White Bear. That would be a pretty big drop in one day.
It's funny how the media has forgotten about how we are still being screwed even though the prices are still going down.
09-30-2008, 06:44 PM
Terry - thanks again for the email.
What else is funny is how brainwashed they have us. We see gas at $3.74 (by me) and we think it's such a great price just because it's under $4.00.
09-30-2008, 06:44 PM
the lowest I've seen today in the NW burbs of Chicago is 3.82. Wish I could see 3.38. At the rate it drops around here, if things go the they have it still would take a year to get that low
09-30-2008, 06:49 PM
gostman07, I checked your profile just to get an idea of where the "By me" gas prices were coming from and saw that u are in same area I'm in, Island lake here and I can totally relate to what you said
10-01-2008, 12:12 AM
Small world racerx. Yeah, the lowest prices I saw were off of 120.
10-01-2008, 06:43 AM

10-01-2008, 07:55 AM

10-01-2008, 11:09 AM
Gostmano7, ill Marty, racerx, snake73. We should all get together for a ride this year. I live by the the Reef to and grew up in wauconda. I'm always looking for someone to ride with.
10-01-2008, 12:30 PM
mschu2008doo... anytinme.. email me its on my profile.. I keep my sleds down here and trailer up to our place cause i I have been sleddin down here along time and still screw around on the river and chain when i can
10-01-2008, 01:20 PM
I'm down Portens Rd. Yea I would like to ride with you guys but unfortunately I gave up riding in IL and sold all my "extra" sleds that I used in IL to pick up my '09 (sold 3 and it just covered half of the new one). The only sled I have left here is the old asphalt sled in the shed but I do not think the Island Lake police would like that (this sled no longer has a title as it was scrapped, which is why I used it for asphalt). Now all my sleds are kept at our property in Land O Lakes, but if you guys ride up there I would ride with ya up there. Or maybe I can bring my 1 extra down someday and re-register it for IL riding.
10-01-2008, 01:52 PM
Hey terry dont forget about the new $.03 tax minnesota put on last night. They will get you coming and going.
10-01-2008, 02:14 PM
Hey guys,I'm also in the area, Johnsburg -Fox Lake. Gas was 3.78 in Foxlake.I've been involved with Richmond Trailblazers for along time.I'm our V.P.If we get snow down here are trails are usually quite good, and we connect to Walworth,County Wis. Mchenry county has three drags and has one tucker and rents to big tractors to groom. When lakes are froze the chain can be a good time.Snake, I'm also a pressman, down in wheeling.Racer, Lando is a great area, our club trip was there last year and we're going back again this year.I've been going up to the U.P. every year since 83.Small world for sure.
10-01-2008, 02:29 PM
I try not to ride down here, but if we have good snow and the river is frozen I'm there. I would rather trailer and ride in Wisconsin, much nicer. I will email you guys and we can set something up before the snow flies. Maybe we could all meet at Sideouts, the OAR or the Reef.
10-01-2008, 03:26 PM
jakester.. We have a place just east of bruce crossing in the UP
trail 8 is 20 ft from our front door its good location you can run down to wis. o r up to Copper Harbor 40 min from Gogebic by sled
i lived in fox lake for 12 years behind Mineola hotel alot of friends are still up there but now iam on the river by Keifs Reef
I work in a prepress shop in Elgin no printing here but we are a big flexo printer all packaging ... kraft foods and so on
10-01-2008, 03:28 PM
10-01-2008, 04:12 PM
Hey guys - I'm in Wauconda off of Gilmer. Not sure if I'll get to do a whole lot of riding around here. I brought my old sled up north for storage and not sure if I'll bring it back down.
If I do ride, I might go to my brother-in-laws area which is Genoa City. Seems every time time I ride locally something happens i.e 4' wide ditch, culvert, boulder etc.
10-01-2008, 07:14 PM
snake..are u the one that has a place in trout creek? Have u heard DaFlowage closed its doors again. I heard something about it from my friends upnort but did not get all the details.
jake..I probably seen you at the landowners dinners before as we are Sno-grovers and have attended this event for years now, altho my Ill club membership is under discussion since we had a few changes in our habits. I always looked forward to riding the Spring Grove/Richmond trail since every year the north section was kind of "my turf" as I marked/demarked it every year from KC's to the hookup with your trail by the hunt club BUT i never got a chance ALTHO the year I got rid of our IL regs we had a decent winter down here and I was mad,oh well.
anyone hitting the Milw show? I'm probably heading up there Sat.
10-01-2008, 11:11 PM
Any of you locals need winterization for boats let me know, I am the business manager over at Chicago MasterCraft. We are just a mile west of the river on Rt. 176.
10-01-2008, 11:23 PM
eric, thanx for the offer. too bad we just sold our boat otherwise I would have given you a call...BTW just wondering if you know the Jensen clan? I work with the dad and I hear they are really into the local skiing scene.
10-02-2008, 06:54 AM
racerx..yes we went there for the year it was open and got to know the owners very well, there is a picture of my race car on the wall in the bar. They were from Crystal Lake. Now it is for sale agian 40 acres plus the bar but not sure how much , our place is 8 miles from there.
10-02-2008, 06:58 AM
erkoehler.. I live right next to Chicago MasterCraft in Bayview Beach . Anyway I normally go to Waetr and Wheels in Fox Lake I know Keith very well and am waiting for a call back to winterize the boat but i will keep you in mind.
we have a 87 22ft Donzi with a 502ci
10-02-2008, 11:17 AM
Eric ,thanks for the offer .I use Roberts Marine -next door to dairy queen- in Fox lake. He is pretty good. Snake ,years ago a bunch of us local guys use to water skip the fox river at the reef. Use to be a big deal.We did it on labor day weekend. Well it got to be so big we stopped then, the pros took over,it was a good time. I have video's of a few years doing that. That's when sleds didn't walk on water like they do now!
10-02-2008, 01:06 PM
snake...that is too bad they closed, the one brother was a pretty good cook. We were able to get up there and meet them before they reopened the place and went up for dinner a few times before the snow flied and their pasta night was awesome, we always opted for a little of each. Over time talking to them we were worried if they could make it since it really isn't "populated" up in that area and I think the distances to other services kind of made things harder for them.

10-08-2008, 07:28 PM
Enjoy the cheaper gas while you can, looks like our OPEC friends aren't happy with the price of oil falling. Even the the economy is heading for the crapper our friends in the Middle East are showing their greed.
From the Financial Times
"Opec members seek emergency meeting
By Carola Hoyos in London
Published: October 8 2008 17:48 | Last updated: October 8 2008 17:48
Almost half the members of the Opec oil cartel are considering an emergency meeting in Vienna next month as oil prices dropped to their lowest level in nearly a year.
Almost half the members of cartel have in the past few days called on the group to act to halt the slide before their next official meeting scheduled to take place in Algeria in late December.
Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Iraq, Venezuela and Ecuador, whose economies tend to be most dependent on high oil prices and whose ministers are among the most hawkish of the 13-member group, have all lobbied for the cartel to drop output.
Their calls came as oil consuming nations moved to bolster their economies in a co-ordinated interest rate cut.
Oil prices on Wednesday resumed their slide towards $85 a barrel, a level last reached in December last year.
Nymex November West Texas Intermediate fell $3.06 to $87 a barrel, while ICE November Brent slid $2.96 to $81.
Opec’s next meeting was scheduled for December 18 in Algeria, but ministers are now saying they could meet on November 18 in Vienna, site of the group’s headquarters.
Opec controls nearly 40 per cent of the world’s oil supply, and at its meeting last month pledged to reduce its production by about 500,000 barrels a day in an attempt to boost prices. So far the group’s reduction has fallen far from that mark, but slowing production often takes more than a few weeks.
The world consumes about 87m barrels a day of oil a day."
10-08-2008, 08:05 PM
I don't think it will happen, this economic crisis is world wide now. I think OPEC will realise this, three months ago if they would have said they were dropping production, oil would have shot up immediately. The recently announced drop in production did nothing to the price of oil, it continued to drop.
That is what I am hoping for anyways, I need gas to be at $2.50 a gallon again.

10-10-2008, 04:43 PM
Just dropped below $78/barrel and OPEC dropping production does'nt seem to effect the slide. Now the time is right for our country to drill here-drill now and build up our reserves so we have a control over OPEC.Lets start building more refinerys, atomic power plants, etc. Our construction people need jobs.My motto is "lead, follow,or get out of the way".Join the NRA as we may need their input.

Will be interesting to see what OPEC does on Friday as some of the greedy nations feel the oil is now too cheap.
10-21-2008, 07:40 PM
It's $2.41 SW Ohio. It's also an presidential election year and there's muddy math going on around here. One other thing. We as American's have helped our cause by being more conservative with our driving habits. The price isn't coming down for nothing. I say Drill Responsibly untill we are independent of OPEC.
10-21-2008, 08:25 PM
keep going down please!
10-23-2008, 11:12 AM
$2.29 in Stacy,MN Price per barrel took a big hit yesterday
10-23-2008, 11:14 AM
Yeah, now OPEC is crying. They say they need to cut production. FOR WHAT? They can't be going broke!!
10-23-2008, 12:36 PM
trailshredder: I was actually reading an article where it said Iran and Venezula are supposedly losing money with the price as it is because they are taking the money that they are getting from oil and Iran is spending it on Uranium Enrichment and moron Chavez is buying Russia military stuff. They are being VERY GREEDY and have had a taste of money and now they can't pull the claws out.
This is gonna get real interesting to see where the Saudis stand on it.
I have a bad feeling about Iran and Venezula trying to screw with our economy. I can only see it going one way and that's not where we want to be, that's for sure.
10-23-2008, 02:26 PM

Yesterday when I was coming home from work it was $2.99. This morning it was $3.01 at the same place. OPEC Meeting:
Given the foregoing, the Conference will continue to provide to the market crude oil volumes required by consumers. Accordingly, the Conference has decided to decrease the current OPEC-11 production ceiling of 28.808 million barrels a day by 1.5 mb/d, effective 1 November 2008, with Member Countries strongly emphasizing their firm commitment to ensuring that the volumes they supply to the market are reduced by the individually agreed amounts, as shown below.
This comes from the OPEC website. I figure the reduction in production is the reason for the 2 cent increase. Hopefully it doesn't continue...
I want to know when food prices will come down, LOL!!! NEVER!!!
10-24-2008, 03:58 PM
$2.19 in Chisago and Lindstrom,MN
OPEC lowered production and the oil futures continued to fall.If the Dems hold on to their majority in the House and Senate this election, you can bet the Drill here--Drill now will get the shaft along with the secret ballot in union elections.Nate,is your company non-union at present?
10-24-2008, 04:30 PM
Terry: The owner of the company would shut the doors before it ever would become a Union shop!
10-24-2008, 05:49 PM
When a union targets a business, they don't just come in and explain their case--it starts out with a stacked deck.Have your boss checkout the legislation involved in "employee free choice" on the internet. If the Dems get their way,he won't have a chance-----or choice. The legislation is written and ready to pass into law after the election.Believe me, the present law is pain enough.Wallmart will prob be the first victim.

10-30-2008, 01:16 PM
OMG!!! I know what you're talking about!! When I looked at my 3rd quarter 401K statement I almost had the big one!!! And then there was my husband's and then I have an IRA from a 401K at another place I worked. I did the math to see how much we lost this year. Ouch! made me sick to my stomach!
My financial planner told me that if we could afford it to up our percentage of putting into our plans because when the market turns around it will be just the opposite and we have the potential of making up what we lost and then some. Now, I don't know enough about all of this, but what if the market just totally tanks??? Then what?? There won't be any money in there to make money off of???
10-30-2008, 03:42 PM

10-31-2008, 07:31 PM
Still EXXON MOBIL made almost 14 billion dollars in the last quarter.
If the price dropped to $1 per gallon for the next 2 years, it would NOT make up for the son-of-a-guns taking the price to $4.20 per gallon for 8 months.
I had a .19 off per gallon coupon for up to 12 gallons for Holiday station, price on the pump was $2.06. Filled the Ram for $41.72 today, almost half what it cost me a month ago! I am in Lakeville, MN.

www.gasbuddy.com (http://www.gasbuddy.com) for prices everywhere.
11-03-2008, 08:41 AM
booondocker, ExxonMobil has their margins either way. The reason gas is now close to half where it was a few months ago is because the price of crude is now half (or less) than where it was. That money went to the sheiks, not ExxonMobil.
11-03-2008, 05:58 PM
"Thats money went to the sheiks, not exonmobil"
Geeze. Where do you get your info? I'm guessing Simpson, Family Guy, or some other cartoon.
11-03-2008, 06:47 PM
11-03-2008, 07:10 PM
2.02 in St paul- i heard of 1.97 but I'm not drivin for 5 cents!
I might get to Twin lakes 10 times again this winter if it stays that cheep!
11-03-2008, 09:55 PM
Ok, 98panther. I'm not even going to try to argue this one with you. We will see if you are correct in January when ExxonMobil releases their 2008 QTR4 reports. Since gas prices are now half of where they were over the summer, then if your theory is correct then their profits should be in half too, right?
Are you trying to tell me the cost of the raw material has no effect on the price of the final product? Now that sounds like total BALOGNA. (Correct spelling)
11-03-2008, 11:24 PM
I have no energy to debate either, the funny part is the Sheiks part.
The oil companies are the ones drilling/shipping/refining/selling. So yeah
the always will make money - they control it all.
But you got me on the processed meat spelling.
11-03-2008, 11:35 PM
Funny? There is nothing funny here. Everybody has been pointing out that there is $700 billion in funds being transferred overseas to OPEC every year, and yes that includes sheiks. $700 billion! ExxonMobil profits 2% of that amount last quarter, and somehow they are the crooks?
And now that prices have dropped, OPEC is scrambling with these emergency meetings to cut production and get prices back up. This is not made up by me, and I didn't read it in the cartoon section. Both of those points are facts.
11-04-2008, 01:29 AM
I think its a lot of bologna … and that ain't no BALOGNA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balogna)! http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif
11-04-2008, 08:40 AM
If I remember right. "I drive a X and drove 3XX miles today" You didn't mind when gas was 4 bucks, so hopefully now at 2 then you are still kicking in that extra 2 back to help them out then.
11-04-2008, 09:45 AM
Nope, I just drive with my foot on the brake and gas at the same time to be sure I burn twice as much!
I think it's time you buy one of those air powered cars and then this whole gas situation won't be an issue anymore.
Whatever the gas price is, I have no choice but to pay it. You are completely out of your mind to think I or anybody enjoyed paying $4 a gallon. My truck now costs about $75 to fill up instead of $120-$130. You think I don't enjoy having an extra 55 bucks in my account to spend on other things?
11-04-2008, 10:35 AM
Main goal today is to vote----
11-04-2008, 11:31 AM
Zx, we all know you don't care about making friends here, you've proved that over and over.
I seem to remember having a discussion with you on something a few months back concerning gas mileage, and it went the same way, until I provided the FACTS to our discussion.
Give us the FACTS that you base your comments on.
11-04-2008, 03:52 PM
I found the story from a lefty news source called CNN for you that outlines Exxonmobil's profits:
Regarding the $700 billion per year going overseas, don't tell me you haven't heard that before. That number has been publicized for pretty much this entire year. And that's just the oil coming from overseas. Of course domestic production isn't included in that number, so when you add that in, ExxonMobil's profit margins are even less than 2% for the quarter (8% for the year).
Here's another CNN interview with Lou Dobbs that indicates that $700 billion, just for the record:
So there's your factual numbers. Now tell me I am wrong, because I am sure you will...
Oh, keep in mind that ExxonMobil makes money from many more products than gasoline. Lubricants, plastics, etc. So that means that their profits from gasoline are probably even less yet.
11-04-2008, 04:29 PM
Ok, good. I never said you were wrong.
I just didn't know there were sheiks all over the world.
11-04-2008, 05:28 PM
Well of course not... I was just mainly referring to OPEC which is comprised of many shieks. And OPEC is the one who is now holding meetings to cut production and therefore up the price again.

$2.23 per gallon in Marquette, and $1.79 in SE Michigan on Monday 11-17-08. Boys in the U.P. who own gas stations are not working at attracting down state travelers with those margins.
For the last 5 years I have kept track of the prices between these areas, and it has never ranged more than a nickle or dime difference. Seems these companies have decided to "get a piece of the pie" at a price.
Clearly a deterient to travel in the region.
11-18-2008, 11:32 AM
Boondocker - I can buy gas near my house for $2.20 and drive to work (16 miles east) and pay $1.99.
11-18-2008, 12:09 PM
Assuming that the guy who is selling gas at $1.99 as is the guy who is selling gas at $1.79 are all making some money, what does that say about the fellow charging $2.20?? Might be getting whacked by the supplier, but I find it hard to believe he is that disadvantaged.
