View Full Version : Comfort - tall windshield vs short
09-17-2009, 04:37 PM
I am close to purchasing a new sled that has a short windshield (Ski Doo MXZ TNT, almost non-existent). I have always had a rather tall windshield...what noticeable difference should I expect?

You'll be colder.

I do not like fighting the cold. When it's minus 10 to minus 20 out and its alittle windy, you will wish you had a taller windshield. The first thing I did when I got my new sled (see profile) was to take that little bitty thing off.

I am going to put the cobra tall on my Attak real soon. I have been on both kind of sleds and I will go with the goofy tall one to stay warmer. Looks aren't so important to me anymore.

I PUT ON THE TALLEST ONE I COULD FIND.
I LOST 110# BEFORE LAST RIDING SEASON AND FROZE THE 1ST TIME OUT WITH THE SHORT ONE.

Wayne - What does no windshield mean? =)

Windsheild is worthless when it's cold. I happen to take the two coldest weeks last season. I still have the marks on my cheeks from the frost bite. On the coldest days (high of 18 below) the new sled sat as I rode my 11 year old sled with a tall windsheild. Wasn't all bad, at 20 below the ole T-Cat couldn't keep the skis on the snow when you pinched it at any speed.

Forgot to mention, I ordered a tall windshield when I ordered the sled. As of 09-17-09, I still do not have the windshield. I do have the mounting bracket thou.

i have no windshield on my sled right now! but i'm in high school so that explains it. i'm getting a 12 inch within the next week. a friend of mine is selling it to me. Low ain't that bad compared to mid. mid blows the wind at your face and low blows it at your chest. i don't know about you but my jacket is a lot warmer than my helmet

Indy 500, that is the best answer so far. p.s. the switchback is still for sale. It needs a good rider like you. Tell Mom and Dad that Wayne takes Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards. Cuzz, I never go over 12 mph. wind shield? We don't need no stinking windshield. except at 6am trying to catch the Togwotee shuttle to Jackson hole for the Hill climb at -23F. Then a wind shield comes in handy. Actually shorter is better. less to break when you roll your sled out of a hole. don't need as many garden tools in the backpack this way.lol
i run a fly screen on my rmk at -20 oh well watever i'm only 52 mite never figur it out looks cool tall ones are way over rated

i should be getting the windshield today after school. ps. i'm in school right now! polarisrider1, my parents said if i don't have at least $2000, they won't pitch in for a $3000 sled

I had a small one on my RMK, it was fine boondocking, but, running the rail bed to get up to and back from John's house, no thanks, put a mid height back on. I guess I am just a puss. LOL.

Skylar - How many have you busted?
09-18-2009, 03:26 PM
ONE! LOL. April of this year.
09-18-2009, 03:30 PM
Once you break 3 you won't be riding with one anymore. LOL
09-18-2009, 03:37 PM
I have noticed that in your profile. LOL. Me thinks you ride a wee bit more aggressive than I do. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/messages/6/114732.gif http://www.johndee.com/discuss/messages/6/114733.gif

You're not riding if you don't break something. Ask Chad, LMAO!
Well, skylar has broken much worse than that plastic windshield! LOL, It's a lot more work to change over from one tunnel & bulkhead to the other. Check out post under Misc "The project begins". Makes replacing a windshield or 4 look like blind man's work. http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif-Mezz

Skylar must be ULTRA-AGGRESSIVE.
