woke to pretty hard snow falling along the shore of lake superior in ontonagon this morning. bare ground is white, not sticking to the grass.

it is time to think about booking your stay for the up-coming season. www.thebluff.biz (http://www.thebluff.biz)

Yep - snowing in Twin Lakes too. Oh my, our rental boats and docks are still in the water but the sight of white stuff put a smile on Richard's face. Look on our web cam-starting to stick. The longest winter in our 15 years here, snow arrived in October and we did not see ground until the following May. As the story was told to me by an Old Timer 15 yrs. ago, "IT IS POSSIBLE that if the ground is not frozen, the snow can stay-if the ground is frozen it needs to snow a measurable amount & melt 3 times before it will stay. Reason being-this is what thaws out the ground and then it will snow & stay." This is why we never get more than 4 to 5 ft in untouched snow depth. This allows the snow to melt into the ground all winter. If Mother Nature didn't plan this out for us, with our average snowfall 325-350 feet, we would end up with around 30 ft. of snowdepth. However, this does not mean that if the ground is not frozen that it has to stay.
Bottom line here is-the ground is not frozen and we may be chipping ice around boats & docks.
You saw my cap letters above--means I'm hoping it doesn't stay-doesn't do anyone any good now. Want it all from Dec. 1 to April 1 when we're supposed to have it.
Just looked out-snowing harder now-guess we'll wait and see.
Sandy

I was in the shower when you called mom! WAAAHOOOO! Is Eric Trygaseth there, probably with his brother Lance? If he is, tell him I said he should have brought the sled!

Eric did arrive-haven't seen him yet. Maybe he went back home to get his sled. LOL Richard is scurrying around getting boats out of water.
Not too sure on this but I believe it was when John & Nora were returning from honeymoon and we had quite a bit of snow depth in our field-in October-and they stopped to take a pic.

frNash-Ooops yes, "inches", sorry everyone.
He's not that old, only 55 but has lived here all his life-guess I should have worded that differently.
He was told that scenario by his elders when he was young-has watched it over the years-found it to be true. Relayed it to me when we moved to Twin Lakes 15 years ago and I have found it to be true every year.
PS-LOL guess I should have said I purposely said feet to see if you'd notice--but I'll blame it on the snow just getting me excited. Or, is it just my brain falling behind?

woke up this morning to snow accumulation. There is enough to ride on, at best 2 ". If my sled wasnt tucked back into the corner of the garage, I would run it around the yard. Expect Mr.Freeze to ride today, come on Danny boy, snap some riding pics today for us!
