We are looking to go to The Snowies or Togwotee in mid Jan. Which one do people suggest? What factors make one better or the other?

Togwotee Area. I do not endorse the lodge there. I have had good and bad. I will be riding the Togwotee Area the 2nd week of January with 7-8 guys. Some from in here. We are renting a sweet Log home on the east side of the divide. Lava/Brookes Lake area. First off what type of riding do you plan to do? How much experience? How far you willing to travel? Are you flying in? Are you renting sleds? Are you going in like "Rock Stars" or on a budget? Do you plan to cook or have meals made for you? etc., etc. What are your expectations? I can give you a very exact answer if I have the above info.

rusty, they have 3 strikes with me. Multiples of issues. Now Ben has left. I love the Guides and they rent nice sleds. Watch your final bill for errors and, and,..... Putting BRAKES ON!!! nuff said. List is a mile long. Trying to be nice. Great Klim wear selection and pricing in the gift shop. Everything else............... NEEDS HELP!!! Great location. Good Luck. If you do Togwotee try www.lavamountainlodge.com (http://www.lavamountainlodge.com) they have it going. No rentals I bring my own sleds. great food, great location, all around nice people who care.

rusty, the year we flew in to Jackson Hole Like "Rock Stars' Limo'ed to the lodge. rented everything and bought the rest, the red carpet came out. Tips were flying all directions. We had their attention. next yr. flew out, shipped a few sleds out, stayed in a cabin instead of the lodge it went okay. (we did have Carter as a guide for a day) That was a great day for me.. 3rd trip out shipped everything out, sleds, gear, munches, oil etc. did the meal plan anyways stayed in a cabin. 16 guys in our group. nobodies anything was right at the desk. The hot tubs (2) were broke the whole season, we were treated like dirt at happy hour. (those drinks are not free, they are built into your pkg. A couple guys got very sick. suspect the Elk steaks. some guys ( my son and employee) had other guests sleeping in their room. Rooms were not cleaned. food sucked to put it mildly. setting up guides was a mess. I had to fix this, stood ground and said with a pointed finger this will be my guide for the day and they knew I meant it. Got Noah! Check out went even worse. I wish them the best this year, but will only return to buy gas during the day and check out the gift/klim shop. Tog. is priced as a first class resort. enuff said. To sum it up. For the money it should be much better. I would never and could never treat my customers the same way.

I have had a similar experience to poarisrider1 and when i post here and on other forums all i get is things are different this year. I sincerely hope they are, but it is hard to take that at face value when i was told that last year and had a heck of a time getting paired with a good guide and a good group. (50% was awesome and 50%wasn't) Like polarisrider1 said it is a first class price and should be a first class treatment. I AM going back out west this year but and trying to do a little more research this year to make sure that the money i started saving the day i got back last year gets me the most for my 51 weeks of peanut butter and jelly lunches. Togwotte may very well still be the answer but i will make sure i have weighed all options and gotten the answers that make me feel warm and fuzy before anybody gets my $$ or i will just keep it here in the U.P.

Oh..OK..Well I will have to do more research for ya guys this winter....
I myself bring my own sled, get to the lodge on my own and stay 3 or 4 days at a time--ON THE PACKAGE---AND HAVE A BLAST--food good, steaks were just fine, salad bar was great..
the social hr was fun every time we were there--we get-together with the other riders talked chit and had few drinks...
cabins are comfy to say least!!!
so I'm sorry you guy had a bad time!!

I like the Snowies and even the Bighorns when they have good snow.
