150-200 miles per day is is simple enough but snow conditions East & South can be very tough more so extreme SE UPMI. I don't know if you can plan a circle trip until snow on ground. Best to have ground support as well.

Mark,

Welcome to the posting area, I see by your profile that this is your first post. I've done some overnight trips, but never the entire UP.

If you stay in Copper Harbor, I would stay at the Mariner North. Lots of good places to stay near Lake Gogebic too, which is 150 miles from Copper Harbor with no side loops. If you do go from LG to CH, you have to take the trail 13 loop near Greenland. You may be aware of this already. Where do you ride most in the UP and where are you from?

I've also stayed overnight in Big Bay and stayed at a neat older hotel with lots of history. Some well known movie was made there, just can't remember the name right now. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

3 years ago took a 4 1/2 day trip. Started in Escanaba (of all places) to Munising. Day 2 Munising to the Soo. Day 3 Soo to Mac island to Newberry. Day 4 to Baraga then back to Escanaba. Fun trip, no snow or trail issues. This was a week day trip.

I've been blessed with some real awsome 4 day bagger trips,NEVER worried about lodging either!..the most we had in our groups is 5 and never got skunked on any rooms!..and being the economy is jack'd I know forsure you won't have a proublem with lodging!..I did take the Casino's into a walk away from where we would sleep or atleast a cab ride away 4-sure!

The best trip 4 me was Escanaba 2 munising 2 big bay 2 marquette 2 Escanaba 785mls 4 days...Track spin not included!!
Good luck - Good Times!

We have done numerous back pack trips:

Here are a few: Rapid River to Paradise to Munising, to Rapid River about 700 miles

Watersmeet to Houghton to Ironwood to Watersmeet about 650 miles

This year we are going to try Newbery to St Ignace to Drummund Island to Paradise to Newberry

Do this trip every year. We normally start in Mercer WI and ride across the UP and back in five days. This year our legs are:
Day 1: Mercer WI - Munising 285 miles
Day 2: Munising - Brimley 260 miles
Day 3: Brimley - Ishpeming 265 miles
Day 4: Ispheming - Copper Harbor 250 miles
Day 5: Copper Harbor - Mercer 290 miles

We don't always take the most direct route so your mileage may vary. We always stay at nice places with a bar and restaurant. I have complete information on lodging, pit stops, trail distances, etc. I don't know how to attach files on this site, but you can download last year's trip information on HCS at the following link.

mspease, Big Bay, nice quaint little place. a little bit of trivia for you. I believe you stayed at the Thunder Bay Inn. Nice historic place with a view of Lake Independence. The movie that was shot there was called Anatomy of a Murder with James (Jimmy) Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Gazzara & Arthur O'Connell.-Mezz

&#34;I don&#39;t know how to attach files on this site …&#34;</font>

Well it can be done, using the &#92;attach{Text description&#125; formatting tag, but it&#39;s often more trouble than it&#39;s worth; there is either a size limit for the attachment, or you may experience a timeout on the document upload, so the way you&#39;ve done it generally works best &#40;Namely by providing a link to another web site where the document resides.&#41;!

By the way, that&#39;s a very thorough, detailed, well written trip itinerary! &#40;I guess I shouldn&#39;t be surprised to find a few British-isms, though, like &#34;petrol&#34;, &#34;whilst&#34;, &#34;&#39;proper&#39; ale&#34; … http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif &#41;

You just made my day with such a beautifully written document. Not to mention that it shows quite a thorough knowledge of UP geography, history and typical snow conditions &#40;e.g. below of M-28&#41;. Hurrah!

Beyond that, it might be useful to emphasize the current &#34;petrol&#34; situation in Silver City, namely there is none!

I regret &#40; http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif &#41; that I could find only two wee little minor nits to pick:

1. The &#34;Park View&#34; in Twin Lakes, is actually the Parkview [Lodge and Grill]!
2. &#34;spare key for your sled in case you <strike>loose</strike> lose one&#34; &#40;loose vs. tight, lose vs. find&#41;

Yep, readin&#39; good ritin&#39; does that to me! http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif

That and my second heart cath on Monday 10/12 may have helped a bit.

1. The first event &#40;8/5/2009&#41;: Cardiac arrest &#40;i.e. death!&#41;, resuscitation, catheterization, thrombectomy, atherectomy, balloon angioplasty and stent emplacement &#40;3 stents&#41;, including chemically induced coma &#40;using the same drug — Propofol — that killed Michael Jackson!&#41; and hypothermia protocol &#40;lowering body temperature to just above 33°F both of which were to prevent or minimize any brain damage due to decreased oxygenation.&#41; Medicare approved charges $191,275.00, Medicare paid $32,262.51. &#40;included hospital &#43; nine doctors, x-rays, 90 minutes in the ER, etc.&#41;

2. The second event &#40;8/5/2009&#41;: a simple 35 minute heart catheterization, atherectomy, balloon angioplasty and stent emplacement &#40;just one more, in a different artery&#41; Medicare approved charges $58,276.00, Medicare paid $11,416.34.

Running total Medicare approved charges, pocket change less than $250,000.00 Medicare paid just under $44,000.

That could almost make me a believer in &#34;Federal gummint medical insurance&#34;! http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif

Cheers frnash for the compliments on my document and for pointing out my mistakes.

Hopefully you will see this year&#39;s itinerary attached, which includes open and closed petrol stations in the eastern U.P.

Lots of good information in this document. <center><table border=1><tr><td>http://www.johndee.com/discuss/icons/mime_pdf.gif2010 Itinerary from Mercer to the Soo and back
