Hello,
My parents, older brother, and myself are making plans for a ride in upper MI, between January and February. We are debating between 2 locations to stay and ride. Trip A- We would stay in Land O' Lakes, WI, and ride through Watersmeet, Ontonagon, and Lake Gogebic. Trip B- We would stay in South Range, MI, and ride in the Twin Lakes, Mass City, and Baraga Area.
We are looking for any suggestions and/or experiences that you may have.
**We have rode in both areas, but it has been over 8 years since we have been there**

Both trips sound good and should have plenty of snow but trip B would be a better bet as you would be up in the Keweenaw Peninsula you will have a better chance of getting the lake effect snow. Check with either Matt at the Bluffhouse or Sandy at Krupps Resort for lodging. And don't forget to tell them you fond it on John dee .com site

107 out out of Watersmeet is one of the best trails in the UP. Both A & B are winners but you can can ride both from A or B. I take the the loop to Mass city back to Phelps, WI all the time as a day trip. Lando gives you the option to ride WI as well. I guess you are limted only by your weakest rider....maybe break into 2 groups if you want..... the fast & the slow.

Looking at John's long range forecast (you will have a better chance of having good snow) and the fact you haven't been to either area in 8 years, I would go the South Range route. Good snow can be hit or miss in northern WI, but usually pretty good in Jan or Feb in the UP. IN addition to the places to stay mentioned above, you should check out the Wildlife Refuge Cabins in South Range. Good luck and have a fun trip!

Does anybody know of the trail with an off trail play area? my father believes it's the Chassell trail that connects to Baraga?
