There may be some local exceptions where the trails cross private land...some land owners don't allow the trails to open until after muzzle loading season.

I know the trail north out of Newberry is a late opener...at least the first couple of miles.

First we need snow after 25 day countdown.

Hopefully it gets cold soon and everything starts freezing up. My first trip of the season is in 5 weeks and it would be cool if there is snow like there was last year on our mid December trip.

I saw that this morning and it wasn't a pretty sight. After years of experience I have seen things change in a heartbeat in the Keweenaw. Even so I'm starting to worry about my mid December trip.

This warm Nov weather allows us to get some things done outside that slipped in time but to hit the trails things need to freeze up before the snow falls. Still too early to worry......

I believe in 10 years we have been able to ride 8 times by 2nd week in december. Probably could have made 9 of 10 on one of those. I have had it bone dry, no snow up to the 2nd or 3rd of december then.....pow!••••••• we be ridin!!!!

this is all bergland and north..more so north of mass

Same here, actually 19 out of 19 years we have rode somewhere in the UP in the first two weeks of Dec. Wasn't pretty a couple of those years though. I do not remember any of those years being this warm though.rails opening. December
1st in UP for trails opening.

After seeing John's changes today in the 5-10 day forecast it's not looking good for the opener.

I know that muzzle load season doesn't end until December 13 in Zone 1, so anywhere in the U.P. that the trails cross private land they will most likely be closed until then I would think.

We are supposed to be heading up 3 weeks from today but I'm becoming more and more doubtful of that happening.

For those folks in Minnesota December 11/12/13 is the ISOC Duluth Nationals in Duluth, MN. The racing was delayed 2 weeks due to a lack of snow-making weather.

We are heading up to either watch the races OR maybe go riding if the forcast snow on December 1/2/3 comes.

Either way we'll have fun, watch the races, or hit the trails.

I have a feeling it's going to be several weeks yet before we are going to be able to ride. I'm thinking next year before things really get good. My own personal prediction is no decent trail riding until around Christmas time.
