View Full Version : LES on radar?

Wasn't sure to post this here or in Ask John. But, anyways, I know the Huron mtns. interfere with radar returns in the Keweenaw. What radar(can you provide link) is best for viewing precip. in this area? My main focus is tracking bands of LES coming off of L.Superior. I will incllude a specific area,or two, for precision and to avoid confusion. Let's say, Houghton, and Lac la Belle. Thank you.

I believe many times lake effect isn't even detected on radar. May be wrong there, but seems to me that is correct. Maybe somebody can offer some insight.

I think some of these areas don't have radar coverage like Marquette and Minneapolis and so on??

There is no alternative radar. Just MQT. And coverage is spotty or non-existent for some areas because radar needs line of sight and as you say Hurons can block some areas and LES is to low to pick up. I have in the past checked the Thunder Bay, Ontario radar but too great of a distance to Keeweenaw.
