I am a route salesman and go to the western U.P. every thursday.. unfortunately I have no pics today (cam not working, I will take my camera next thursday). I just had to see if there was anywhere I could go for spin....I FOUND NO RIDEABLE SNOW ANYWHERE IN THE WESTERN U.P...I was PO'd... lake effect is unpredictable...though I was hoping I'd see a foot of snow in Mass City (still could happen)...... Unless the lake effect really picks up tonight or tomorrow, nobody will be riding by saturday...I started my drive in Tomahawk today...no snow here...not much in rhinelander either...however just north of sugar camp started to see more snow, by the time I got to eagle river there was a good 2 inches in spots...I then headed to iron river...snow got less as I headed east..1-2 inches in spots..from iron river I headed west towards watersmeet..snow got deeper as I went west back to around 2 inches...I turned off highway 2 onto FF HWY 16...surprisingly..the snow got thinner and thinner as I headed north...just a dusting in kenton...continued on ff16 all the way to sidnaw....even less snow...got to my next stop in alston...nothing..NO SNOW...my buddy who lives there said it was that way all the way to Baraga.....so I headed west towards Mass City on M-38...snow again got a bit deeper as I went west...back to around 3 inches at Mass...BUT BELIEVE it or not....it started to snow heavily just south of Bruce Crossing...in fact the snow started to accumulate on the road, making it slippery..by the time I hit paulding..it was whiteout conditions at times...I was amazed....unless it started to snow heavily this afternoon....paulding-watersmeet, and lando lakes had more snow than mass city/ greenland...about 3-4 inches and snowing hard at 3pm central time this afternoon....in fact Lando-Phelps have more snow than Mass City.
For what it is worth the radio station out of Lanse said 5" inches of snow tonight, and 6" tomorrow for the higher areas of the western U.P....so maybe there will be enough snow to ride by saturday...keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the update bryan t
We're headed out of here late this afternoon. Need to do some odds & ends at buddy's place in Lando. Sounds like we might be able to get a quick rip up to the casino and back.
We know the trails are closed in Wis. we're right on the stateline.

YW..Just talked to a logger from chassel...he came down to our shop for parts (in tomahawk)...said he went to bed early with nothing but a dusting on the ground yesterday..woke up to 12 plus inches, and snowing hard when he left this morning...white out conditions..for part of the drive (until he got south of the snow belt)...amazing what mother nature will do in less than 12 hours...to me watersmeet looked like they had more snow yesterday afternoon than mass city did...if watersmeet got 3-5 inches on top of what they had..I'd ride there too...I would have ridden yesterday up there on a few of the backroads I saw (logging roads)...unfortunately...my sled is still in the shop...won't have her until sunday...and of course, the wife has plans for us sunday...(if ur married you know how this goes...lol...I try to keep my wife happy...if I do she LETS me snowmobile)
I guess I'll have to hope the storm in the middle of the coming week hits hard...at least then I can buzz around the yard, or pound a few ditches.
BTW..even if the trails are closed here in wisconsin..it is not illegal to ride the ditchlines, and you are aloud to go onto the shoulder to go around obsticles..just stay off the trails, and private property..still hunting here in wisconsin..it's muzzleloader week (starting saturday)...don't need to pizz land owners off, and have them close trails..before they even open...right???

10-4. Wouldn't think of riding private property. Like I said we have MI. trail access across the street.
