...INTENSE STORM SYSTEM TO BRING HEAVY SNOW...STRONG WINDS...AND
DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS TO THE AREA LATE TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...

A MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE GREAT LAKES REGION THIS
AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY. THE STORM IS EXPECTED TO REACH AN
INTENSITY LEVEL NORMALLY OBSERVED ONLY A FEW TIMES EACH DECADE...
AND THE AREA HAS NOT BEEN AFFECTED BY A STORM THIS STRONG IN
YEARS.
THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW...STRONG WINDS...AND LOW VISIBILITIES
WILL LEAD TO DANGEROUS OR IMPOSSIBLE TRAVEL CONDITIONS LATE
TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING. ALL ERRANDS AND NON-ESSENTIAL
TRAVEL SHOULD BE COMPLETED EARLY TODAY...OR POSTPONED UNTIL AFTER
THE STORM HAS PASSED.

SNOW WILL SPREAD NORTH ACROSS THE AREA TODAY...AND INCREASE IN
INTENSITY LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING. HEAVY SNOW IS
EXPECTED TO ARRIVE LATE THIS EVENING OR OVERNIGHT...AND CONTINUE
INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY BEFORE DIMINISHING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH. WINDS
WILL ALSO BE ON THE INCREASE.

THE COMBINATION OF LOW VISIBILITIES DUE TO FALLING SNOW AND
STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS SURGING DOWN THE LAKE AND BAY WILL LIKELY
LEAD TO BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVER EAST-CENTRAL WISCONSIN AT TIMES
LATE TONIGHT AND EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

OVER CENTRAL...NORTH-CENTRAL...AND FAR NORTHEAST WISCONSIN...IT
WILL PROBABLY NOT BE AS WINDY AS NEAR THE LAKE AND BAY. BUT
TEMPERATURES IN THESE AREAS WILL BE COLDER...SO IT WON/T TAKE AS
MUCH WIND TO PRODUCE WIDESPREAD BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. THE
HEAVIER SNOWS WILL ALSO LAST LONGER IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN BEFORE
DIMINISHING.

ONCE THE SNOW STARTS...TRAVEL SHOULD BE AVOIDED UNLESS IT IS AN
EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL DURING THESE CONDITIONS...MAKE SURE
YOUR CAR IS WINTERIZED. BE SURE THE TIRES...BATTERY...
LIGHTS...EXHAUST...HEATER CONNECTIONS...DEFROSTERS...AND
WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. MAKE SURE THE
GASOLINE TANK IS FULL BEFORE CROSSING OPEN COUNTRY.

Lenny..like I said, I have never seen the nws say that before...I bet the kids don't have school tomorrow. I was hoping to go up to Alston to ride with some yooper buddies (probably in a couple weeks)...looks like I may have the snow here..lol

At one point the NWS in Des Moinse(sp?) compared it to the "blizzard of '78" with respect to the pressure of the low anticipated!
