Go to a moving store or a u haul and purchase a large moving box for a $1.00 or so and put the chain saw in there along with some other heavy objects (12 pack of pop or canned food). So when he picks it up is is really confused by the weight!

Take the bar and chain off, wrap that separate, and then put the base/motor in another box. Have him open the bar and chain first and wonder what's going on.

Go buy a cheap swedish bow saw and a 1 gallon gas can. wrap them together. I helped a lady do this for her husband for a X-mas gift. She told me that he asked his wife "why are they were wrapped together"? She told him that she thought he wanted a gas powered saw. After his strange look she brought him into the laundry room (men never go in there) and showed him his real "gas powered saw"

I would try to find a big box that some other big ticket item came in that he hasn't seen. Maybe an ice auger box, grill box, smoker box, or something entirely different than a chainsaw. Then when he opens it up he'll really be "surprised."
But on a heavier note, isn't a wife buying here hubby a chainsaw, kinda' like the hubby buying her pots and pans????? How would that go over????? HA HA!

On a funnier note, I first clicked on the thread thinking that someone was going to "wrap" or "sticker" their chainsaw and thought this ought to be interesting. Seeing as though alot of people the last few years have been wrapping their sleds and since I am in the sign industry, thats the first thing that came to mind. So, needless to say the thread title makes much more sense to me now. Too funny!!!!!!

Why not wrap the 2 stroke oil and saw seperate. Have him open the oil, then the bar oil, then the saw. Might work. Good Luck, Merry Christmas. I thought a chainsaw wrap would look cool also!!

thing like that I think are best wrapped verry tight and to follow every angle every Handel so it is more than obvious that it is a chainsaw. then wrap the paper in clear packing tape so it is a PITA to see what saw is hiding under all that tape and paper. just hide it till xmas morning

No need to wrap it. Keep it in the bedroom until it is his turn to open...then go to the bedroom and start it...run into the living room with it running wide open and watch him light up with excitement!!! :)
