pulling out drive for maint

how often do you pull your out drive to grease the u joint yolks?I have been doing every 3 yrs a marine mechanic was trying to tell me every yr sounds crazy to me but if he can sell it all the power to him I guess.did my Volvo today bit corroded where drive slips in to I think it is called the gimbal but yokes did not even take 2 pumps

Don't forget to replace the impellers if they are 3 plus yrs. old.
