I am serously thinking to live on my boat all summer (pretty much do now) and at my place up North in the winter. I am tired of property taxes and all the expenses of owning a house. All I need is a bigger pole barn to store toys. I actually found a place that is an indoor boat storage condo in Grand Haven, MI that I can store boat, bikes, sleds, travel trailer, etc. in that and is secure and heated with seperate full bath facilities in the unit. I can live their with my toys. This will keep me somewhat local (loco) so I can still work for current customers. Besides it will be a great way to get the last of the "kids" out of the house.

I hear you on the property taxes, fees, maintenance, etc. They switched there driver's lic. and residency to SD also to avoid state income tax. It's kind of neat. They have a mail forwarding service and just use an air card for internet and have a sat for tv.

Kind of tight living quarters don't you think Wayne? I can see spending the weekends on that but living on it half the year? You and Tammy will be at each others throats within a month.

I have only owned sailboats. Rented a Grand Banks for a week and loved the trawler layout with all the room up where the windows are. While there is $100k difference between the two boats you listed, the extra 5 ft on the 34 is a huge difference. The 29 is kinda small for a live a board. If you did order the 29 you would probably want to remove a stateroom for additional space like an office or locker.

I knew of these boats but never really gave them a really look until now. That 34' is pretty sweet but I never knew it would that pricey altho it should not surprise me because I checked into the price of my old 22' cuddy and that was getting in the 40s. Would be nice tho...

Andy, it is her idea. We are looking at a Toy Hauler for the bikes and land travel and a trawler for summer living. The house is going to go. Mowing lawn, taxes, lack of being there, etc. Heck I am on the boat tonight and drive into Grand Rapids to work. It takes an extra 15 min. to drive in from Grand Haven as it does from my house. We found a toy hauler at Bike time.http://customtoyconversions.com/

http://grandhavenstorage.com/index.htm this is the plan. rent from an owner and run the business andlive with toys all out of this location. Store the boat and Toy Hauler in one location. If the wife acts up I can send her over to the boat or vice versa. I only will live in the building in the winter and on the boat in the summer. The toy hauler can haul sleds or bikes.

The 34 is ten times the boat over the 29. I don't think I can downsize to the 29, but I like the top cruising speed, trailerbility and economy of the 29. I am afraid of the quality of the boat knowing the history of that boat builder. The 34 is top notch but is a stretch in the money dept.

You guys are gettin a little squirly. After sledding this winter, you might need a quick get-a-way to the Miami Boat Show, Ft. Laud Boat show, or the Palm beach boat show. You will find what your looking for......and maybe an umbrella drink.....or 5. I think I am going to hit the Palm Beach show coming up soon.

I'm looking at going to "Trawlerfest" whatever that is! lol. Seems everything I want to live in or on has a motor or two and depreciates. Just getting tired of a 3000+ sq.ft. house with 30 yrs. of collected stuff in it.

Hmmmm, time for some jimmy drinks, a sit down, new retirement goals, and a re-evaluation of todays current events! How bout a houseboat/trawler w/a tender/sled space. Fishing in the off season, and sledding in the winter months.....Sled guide in the winter and a bartender in the off months.

sounds perfect. I truly could live on a 40-60' houseboat. I just would like to be a little more manuverable with it, hence the trawler/tug idea. sleds or bikes could go in the toy hauler for groud travel (Togwotee) and the 34 American Tug will take a roof top lift so I can hoist the Harley up on the roof and travel. I can also haul my Zodiac tender on the back. I told the "kids" don't expect any inheritance, Dad's spending it now. I will never truly retire but this semi retired thing is working fine. Sled guide idea would work out just fine (doing it for years now for free). Is there anyone in here living in some "Not so Traditional" way such as this?

Thank you for your support 700classic! I will most definately have to have a major Garage sale to get rid of all the stuff I can't live without.

Might as well get it all in one. The Tera Wind, a amphibious motor coach then haul your sleds behind and your all set.

looks tippy even with the wimpy inflatable pontoons. What about the wheel bearing and other items that should not be submerged? I guess what I have is working just fine for now.

polarisrider1-

You should have checked this out while you were in Manitowoc. However if you ever got one of those I would definately want a ride. I would bring the beer. Lol

I did go up the river (in the rain) to Burger Yachts and drooled on there dock. I could only see one boat being built. I don't need that much space. I found a trawler at the Manitowoc Marina for sale by Midwest that fits the bill perfectly. I just can't believe how much stuff I need to get rid of to make it happen. No sense in putting it all in storage. I have a feeling that we will keep the current boat and buy a Toy Hauler to travel in. I can be like cousin Eddy from "Christmas Vacation".

I have a bud who lives in a older grand banks 8mo a yr in Naples FL. 1st yr he kept it tied out in the bay and used the dingy to get to shore. other people around him had kids who would take the dingy to shore every morning for school no tax no mooring fees not bad if you can get away with it.I also had a bud who lived in a Gibson spring summer fall for like 3 yrs when we were younger .think it starts to get old after a few yrs,but **** some a holes in NY live in 300sf studios for decades and pay like 2500 a mo to do it

I have a friend who lives on his boat in Muskegon, MI. for the summers and rents out his house during that time then moves home for the winter. My plan is to get rid of the house, live on the boat 7months than at my place up north and travel with a toy hauler behind my pickup. I do have heated storage for all. Just sick of taxes and mowing the lawn. I must be at a stage that I don't need all this stuff in a big house. My wife will go along with any of my ideas. (not sure why).

Sure can! I will put a lift on it to get the bikes on it too! I decide no hot tub so I can. Store bikes there. Just need to sell the house. Anyone looking for an Original Victorian that is on a river?

Still shopping tugs and/or a trawler. Now that would be fun living. I would want auto pilot for the fact of 8 knots would put me to sleep.

I think it was someone else. I have a Sea Ray already and have no use for a car. Wife wants to sell the Sea Ray and get a Trawler to do the Great Loop. Found out she has a bucket list too.

PR1 - you do indeed have a kick butt wife...but what about the grandkids when they come 10 years down the road? Never mind...sea legs are funny to watch with toddlers?!

I've seen some of those tugs modified for living purposes in them fancy boating mags...have even seen one where a family decided to live on one in Canada (Vancouver area maybe?) Husband had a job he could do by net and they home-schooled the kids. I was thinking nightmare! But for you and Mrs PR1? That'd be cool.

We rented one of those houseboats on Lake Cumberland a few years ago. It was 80 feet long but real easy to drive and manuever around. It was the best family vacation we ever had. You could easily live on one of those.

Ken and karen(midwest trawlers) are very good friends of ours.
We live near them on ceadar lake for many years.
Great people to work with.
Also do motorcycling with them.
