A portion of the Bergland-to-Sidnaw (SB Trail) ORV Route in Ontonagon County will be closed starting Monday, Aug. 2, to allow for repair and reconstruction of a bridge spanning the Baltimore River near Bruce Crossing, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment announced today.

It is anticipated that the bridge will be closed until late October. During that time, the ORV route to the east and west of the Baltimore River will remain open for use, with a temporary, marked reroute available which will be the. The 13-mile ORV reroute eliminates the need to cross the river and rejoins the Bergland-to-Sidnaw route just east of Bruce Crossing.

The Reroute will be called the HR Trail it will run from the SB Trail west of the bridge repair (Ewen) south down the CE trail then east on the HR trail (Amberlake Rd.) you will cross US 45 and continue on the HR trail all the way to M28 crossing M28 and then returning to the SB trail about 4 miles east of Bruce Crossing

The Bergland-to-Sidnaw ORV Route is part of the rail-trail system, which allows for multiple uses, including bikers, hikers and motorized use. Non-motorized rail-trail users will be able to cross the Baltimore River during the bridge construction using the state highway bridge adjacent to the trail rather than following the ORV reroute. The DNRE reminds ORV riders that the state highway bridge is not available to ORV traffic, as it is illegal and dangerous to operate ORVs on state highways, including the shoulders or unmaintained right-of-way.

Barricades and signs alerting trail users that the bridge is closed will be placed on the trail west and east of the project site. The 13-mile ORV reroute will be marked with signs and follows paved county roads that are open to ORV traffic. Members of local trail advocacy group Mi-TRALE partnered with the DNRE to accomplish this reroute by purchasing and putting up the signs marking the temporary reroute.

I want to thank Mike and Linda, active members of Mi-TRALE for putting up the Detour Signs.

It is volunteers like the Running Bear and so many of other members, that do so much for the FANTASTIC ORV Trail System that Mi-TRALE developed and maintains in 5 Western UP Counties.

Mi-TRALE continues to work hard in getting 100+ more miles of ORV Trails in the Ottawa NF, not to mention working on developing more miles of trails outside of the Ottawa.

It is ALL DONE by Volunteers and Members. We desparately need membership money to do all that we do.

In case you didn't notice the DNRE Press Release...
