Jacob, I have 14 deposits in my posession for Sturgis with 4 more on the fence. I am transporting the extras in a van. 12 bikes so far. I informed Rick. I am limiting this trip to 24 people and 20 bikes. Tilford Gulch campground is the destination.

Jacob, I would love to be going with your group, but I will be out there the week of the 24th. Can't swing all the time off. For anyone on the fence about going with this group, this is the way to make one of these trips. The trip to the Snowies in Dec. was great. Make sure to post some update pictures while you out there. Thanks Dave.

We pulled in late last night, unloaded the 13 sleds and gear out of the rig and waited like kids on Christmas for this a.m.
The early report is: lots of powder, some base, some rocks, shrubs and stuff sticking out here and there. But, over all, great early season riding. And it should be here and based up well when we return in March.
We still have room to join up for transportation and packages for Hill Climb Week.
You could be riding deep snow in the west after the trails and meadows in the mid west dry up.
Its not this deep if you stay on the 600+ miles of trail. But, there are 2.5 million acres of accessible back country to ride where you can find wicked off trail treasures like this.

Dave, I hear you may be joining us to Cooke City, sweet.
Looks like we will put 26 sleds and 16 people in the transport rig.

Here is the report for today.....
There was about 5in of cotton that tell two nights ago, even more up in the hills. Makes for some fluffy powder pushing fun. We went south and east of the lodge and found some fun spots. Most of the areas near the trail and with easy access are fairly tracked at this point. Once we made it into the hills we found some deep stuff.

enjoy the riding next week. looks like some fresh snow rolling in for you this weekend.
The update on the TML area today........
Woke up to more freezing fog. It has taken it toll on the snow adding a glassy layer on top of some fairly mushy stuff. The crust on top is strong enough to hold your skis up as the track eats through the hard layer and into the mush underneath. Not so mushy that the front end dives in to stop you dead thankfully. Fog in the high hills has lead to tough visibility conditions.
1.Thick layer of frozen stuff on everything this a.m.
2.RevKev and SigelSummit sit on top, heeding my warning after my launch off.
3.the creek slope that awaited the other side of the above rock launch.
4.SigelSummit decided not to ride it out.
5.Pushing the sled over.

Sounds like the dreaded hoar layer has shown its ugly face. Better be extra careful for rest of season. Good recipe for avalanche soup!

yep, that hoar is here....
we did a beacon test/search just yesterday. we found out one guys beacon is transmitting but not receiving. good thing i threw mine in the tree and made them look for it.
Today's update: The crust is still here but, if you get up around 10,000ft it is not as stiff and not even there in some places. Also, some fresh was falling today around the brooks lake lodge area. Climbing and boondocking are fairly easy since the snow has set up. The temps are dropping with clear skies tonight. High of 11 for the day tomorrow. While there is still a ton of untouched areas, the snow they are calling for is certainly needed.
Here are some pics form today.
