There is a solid 16"-20" here on the ground in Harvey (just 5 minutes south of Marquette). I know that there has been plenty of snow east of Marquette towards Munising.

I have not heard any reports from over by Republic.

On trial 8 going from Marquette towards munising was very thin past the casino in Harvey. That was before this storm. I might try to make a run to munising tomorrow and if I do I will update you guys.

The national weather service in Neguanee reported 21 inches and Champion reported 10 inches (kinda close to Republic).

I am going to speculate here. But in my experience running trail 417 from Marquette Mountain to Harvey to the casino, more often than not it is thin. That trail runs along the lake with no cover and the winds that occurred with the storm probably didn't help keep snow on that section. Now obviously I don't live there so I don't know, but this is my educated guess.

Yeah...you definitely want to stay away from the lakeshore trail...that is thin throughtout the entire winter.

A better bet is to head south to Gwinn and then take the trail east towards Munising from there (I forget the trail numbers).

417 is the trail that goes up on Mount Marquette (note: not marquette mountain- thats the ski area) and has a 35MPH SPEED LIMIT for a few miles in Harvey. 8 is the trail going south from marquette to gwinn, and 8 again is the one going east from gwinn towards munising.

From my experience 417 around Harvey is always thin due to the high winds along that trail.

Just got back from driving from my house to Marquette today. Looks to be about 12-14" down in the city of Marquette and then about 2 feet on the ground from Negaunee to Ishpeming and then drops back to around 12-14" from just west of Ishpeming through about Lake Michigamme or Three Lakes. Trails were being groomed and looked quite good from the highway.

I rode from Marquette on trail 417 to christmas then did the small loop down by chatham then back to 417 to marquette today. 92 miles. Trail 417 wasnt groomed but wasnt that bad besides a few drifts in the open areas. Ill post some pics later!

Good to hear! Will be up in Ishpeming (own a house there) this weekend and was hoping to not have to trailer to Munising area.

Thanks for all the info. I decided not to push the quick run up before Christmas. We will be up from the 26th - 2nd so I will get my riding in. Gotta pick my battles. Figured be good now and will get a few extra trips later in the year.

Flatlander, I live in Lake Zurich. Sorry cant make it this time. Maybe next. Take care everyone and hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Rode from Ishpeming west to the junction with trail 5. Out of Ishpeming was pretty good. Swamps were still pretty grassy and not 100% frozen. Trail 5 was mostly great. a few of the wet areas were worn in from being rode while not entirely frozen, but should be fine soon.

Ishpeming east onto 8 was quite bumpy until marquette area. went south to gwinn and that was mostly like mid season conditions. overall was quite impressed considering the date.

Buddies sled overheated and it looks like he's got oil in the coolant; had to bring the truck to gwinn to rescue him!
