looking for a day trip there and back. also scenic routes or places that are a must to stop at. since we started going to the western UP we have always wanted to make the trip but just never had a plan before we went.

if you guys know the post and want to post the link since i cant seem to find it that would also be great.

Best bet, go to Michigan Interactive.com and click on the western side of the up. It shows all the trails from the stateline of Wisconsin to the tip of the Kewannaw, however its spelt. Also shows some scenic stops on the map, or maybe thats trails through town. Anyway check it out, it will give some insight.

I did a day trip from Amasa to Houghton, that was a 290 day. Haul A$$ up and back!! Just to say, the next day was maybe a 100 miler. Very tired! :o

We did a modified run up toward that area this past weekend and here is what we did:

ripped gogebic and took trail 13 to rockland/mass city.
then picked up 3 thru twin lakes, south range and to houghton.
we crossed the bridge, took a right and stayed on 3...ended up going to Gay via 122.
on the way home we took the freda loop which was fantastic.
otherwise came back the same way.

long day and we think it was a 235 mi trip but we did not go to copper and back.
certainly do-able just leave early as the trails are usually really nice, less traffic, etc...
