My wife works at a convience store and sees some folks come in that she just rants about. She says paper products, beer, tobacco and prepared (hot) foods are the items they can't get, she says ice, and any other food product is available including most candy!!
She was wondering if the slip contains the balance of items left as some that come into her store have 200 dollars left at the end of the month and she's like really?? We have kids and not so great jobs and we can't get it, but you do??

For me, I cant possibly spend as much as I am entitled to each month. Even when I go crazy in the cookie aisle.
We dont see the rest of the reciept that would show the cigs and alcohol that they had to pay for with their own money.

Absolutely ridiculous. Find the purchaser and slap that porterhouse across their face, and stick everyone of those lobsters so far up their tail they need to have them surgically removed. Typical govt moocher-no common sense (aka dumb a^*). Food stamps were intended for people who fall upon hard times, and it's a great program if used properly. food stamps were originally intended as a temporary bridge when people fall on hard times. I have no problem with my tax dollars going to those who legitimately need help. My problem lies with helping the lazy SOB's who are perfectly capable of working, but choose not to help themselves. No use for people who take advantage of the government. NONE!!!!!!!

Food is food. I had a young couple with very nice clothing and big dollar air Jordans on who bought Steaks, beer and cigarettes with food stamps ahead of me in line the other day. As they drove off in their Lexus, I asked the clerk of about 15 yrs. Old, How can this be? She said it goes on all day long, and that her parents own the store. They "fix" the reciepts for this. So we paying customers reciepts also are used in the "cover up". Just another service us paying customers provide and did not know it. She states it is not right, but keeps our little store alive and feeds our family. She also said it all started out when a customer threw a fit in the store in front of regular paying customers over paying for candy bars, monster drinks and 5 hr. Energy. We took the stamps to keep her quite and the line a moveing. Word got out, and the problem grew. After all they got the stamps and card to use them, who are we to judge. Was what she said. Makes me sick. I have never got anything from the government ever other than a you owe us this amount notice. Never ever got unemployement checks, workers comp. Or anything else free. Why? In Illinois, you don't even need to go to the mailbox. If you have a LINK card, the money is automatically put on the card at the beginning of every month and it works just like a debit card. There are certain things you aren't supposed to be able to purchase but if the store just switches a code here and there??...

WTG - I'm sorry but you just crack me up. I've tried not to laugh at this but I can't help myself. BTW, you'd be surprised at how many men are fascinated with skanky women.

Anyway....It doesn't surprise me that the members on this site take a lot of pride in the fact that they've worked hard and have probably done without things but they've made do with what they had without looking for handouts. It just seems to fit the snowmobiler profile.

I think what bugs me a little is that it seems that a lot of people think that a job, however unskilled, doesn't pay enough or seems to be beneath them. Believe me, I taken every crappy job available when it meant feeding the family. The stories I could tell!

Unfortunately, our system seems to promote dependency. Back in my bartending days, I regularly had people tell me that they were passing up jobs because it meant taking a pay cut from what they were collecting on unemployment. In some cases, this is a valid excuse but in most of the cases I saw, it was not.

I own a grocery store in MN. It is illegal to sell items like cigarettes and alcohol to people with EBT cards. It is considered fraud and is punishable with steep fines. The major reason these EBT cards were created was to eliminate fraud. In the old days it was too easy for dishonest folk to sell the actual paper food stamps for half their stated value and purchase items like booze and smokes. You also cannot purchase things like soap and shampoo with MN EBT cards. But it is perfectly legal to buy lobster, porterhouse steaks, potato chips and many other junk foods. The items that qualify are constantly changing and it takes one person a few hours a week just to keep up and make sure everything is in the right department. It is a pain in the butt. The WIC program is just as bad. Originally intended for the needy now everyone qualifies. Taxpayers get to pay for millionaire's kids baby formula. Neat, huh? Many things that started out with good intentions have morphed into gigantic money sucking inefficient job creating bull****. I wish we could go back to about 1985.

grub

I forgot the best part. There are actually items that are deemed taxable AND food stampable. This means that if somebody comes in with green money they get taxed but if they come in with an EBT card the tax is removed. It is so convoluted it is unbelievable. Also the folks that work for WIC and the issuers of food stamps are encouraged to sign up as many people as possible for these programs. I have been doing this for over 20 years. In my experience there are only about 20% of the recipients of EBT cards and WIC that really need the help. The rest are simply abusing the system. But the system has opened itself up to this abuse. It costs the rest of us milllions if not billions. Just one more example of the many things out of control in our great welfare state. End of rant. Don't forget your Mom tomorrow. Grub.

What I find amusing about the lobster is that it was something poor folks ate and now considered "eating good". I think it tastes like crap. From Wikipedia:

"In North America, the American lobster did not achieve popularity until the mid-19th century, when New Yorkers and Bostonians developed a taste for it; not until the invention of a special boat, the lobster smack, did a commercial fishery flourish.[20] Prior to this time, lobster was considered a mark of poverty or as a food for indentured servants or lower members of society in Maine, Massachusetts and the Canadian Maritimes, and servants specified in employment agreements that they would not eat lobster more than twice per week.[21] American lobster was initially deemed worthy only of being used as fertilizer or fish bait, and it was not until well into the twentieth century that it was viewed as more than a low-priced canned staple food.[22]"

Anyhow, it's quite expensive electing officials isn't it?! Not only are they paid for by the corporations, they spread the money you pay into the system back to those jamokes!

Those who really need the food don’t have vehichles to get to the food we are giving out. They say, "we don’t know the sitiuation that the fancy car owners are really in so give them the food." I get the point but a 10-15 y.o. Navagator can be of little value too.
Maybe you should stand there with a Bluebook and look up the values, if it's worth more than 5K tell them to keep moving. LOL

Ever look at a car lot that caters to low income, they are full of Lincolns, Caddies, Lexus. All have a bunch of miles on them, they sell them for 2X what they are worth but will let anyone make payments on any vehicle, no credit check, no downpayment. And Guiedo sits in the back of the office ready to go get it back if you miss a payment.

Explain the fancy hairdos and shiney jewlery they wear too, would you. Guess you never been to Grand Haven, Mi. Everyone has money there, not sure why club doesn't take it out to the real poor. Guess because the 4 semi trucks of food we give away is donated by local stores who just care about the tax write offs and they stated just do the best you can to distriibute it. Nothing is perfect but if they are driving junk and look like they live in their cars I load them up with food and hope they have a way to cook it. Mrs. Fancy clothes will get much less and her maids wont have to eat the off brand mac an cheese we give out. Anyways as a new trustee of the club I will work on making this distribution work better. I did get several pickup loads of food to the women in the" Battered womans" shelter in Spring lake last year and some to a day care center. But this is a drop in the bucket of good compared to the whole size of the issue.

All programs or "giveaway handouts" are based on some kind of criteria. EBT and Cycle clubs make that decsion.
EBT doesnt care what kind of car you drive, instead its based on income, and home ownership or rental roof, obligation over your head and cost. Plain and simple. Either you qualify partial.. whole.. or you dont. Where does the the abuse come in for "those people" ?

I guess I better not shave or shower.

Guys: similarly my fiance works at an urgent care clinic. She says the ones who come in with the government aid cards and medicaid always have their nails and hair done. And usually driving decent to nice cars.

Obviously they are living outside of their means by driving nice cars and primping themselves, but I guess they can manage to pay for that stuff because their healthcare is paid for and they are also likely on food stamps (buying government surf and turf).

Granted this isn't the case for all people on economic aid, but how do we stop this?? Its surely not fair to hardworking Americans.

I think there should be tighter controls, maybe a manager/advisor that oversees 50-75 welfare/aid recipients and helps them become economically viable. If the manager sees that type of behavior purchasing surf and turf with welfare money, they should be cut off, immediately! If an aid recipient spends money on a luxury or something unnecessary, they're cut off! The point being, if there is somebody to monitor this closer it will become less of an issue. Plus it will create jobs and likely save money by cutting the fat of welfare/aid recipients. AND it could certainly help people.

How about a system that requires all people on gov aid to turn in their receipts each month to be qualified for the next months aid. When I travel for my company it is required of me to save receipts and turn them in, should be the same for them. That would be one way to try and police this mess we have with the free loaders. I am sure not all people are scamming their way along but this would be a way to try and stop the abuse.

Reminds me of the patient we had a couple weeks ago who walked out of her house, met us at the curb, and got into the ambulance all under her own power. Her reason for calling 911? Her doctor wouldn't refill her prescription because she had a past-due balance, so she wanted to go to the hospital to have it refilled. And we still have to be polite to these morons and treat them with the respect they don't deserve.

Unfortunately so.... they ( the corrupt gutless puke politicials ) whom have no honor, morals, integrity, ect.... I have something for them. I better stop with the comments before I get identified as a radical . This is how we run security here.

WOW, Thats quite a statement. Uhhhh, what are we talkin' about.

Oh yeah, my entitlement. I meet the Fed guideline for eligilibilty. So at that point I'm entitled. Just like, once you are qualify for your mortgage or MI Homestead or other deductions Schedule A / B you too are now entitled. You just take a diifferent route. If anyone feels that strong about free monies , just fill in the EZ IRS Form.

My Arms and Legs are just fine, though my back flare's up, but probably too much Party Time and my Yardwork...

My goodness! I have never met such a judgemental group of folks in my life?!

I bet none of you business owners cheat the government on your tax filings huh? ;)

Some of you will be lying if you say you never have or don't.

Yes some folks may abuse the system, but, the same folks who like to jump all over others probably need to take a good look in the mirror too.

WOW, I just read an article about this reciept linked to the Drudge Report. Looks like this receipt was the result of foodstamp fraud... The Milwaukee Journal had an article about foodstamp fraud over the weekend as well... There are huge problems with this system and anyone who gets high and mighty over taking away people's "rights" has their head in the sand. The USA is broke fbecause of systems like this and things need to change or we are the next Greece.
