I need help to identify some vintage fishing gear. I think it is a smelt dipping net but would like verification. The handle is wooded and 8 to 10 feet long and is a little thicker than a broomstick. On the end is a net made out of metal and is cone shaped and you could easily net a basketball in the water. So the net opening is as large as a basketball and is a rigid cone shape the net is about two feet from tip of cone to the rim. If it helps the guy also has an array of cork floats that I assume were attached to nets at one time.

Net is definitely for dipping smelt....used to see lots of them around when I was a kid, and there were still some smelt around to be caught.

Smelt net. My dad still has one. I tried it when I was a kid in L'anse and it worked!
