From the sounds of it the avy danger is really bad this year (at least for SW montana and eastern Wy). They have been getting really inconsistent temperatures and snowfalls which is creating a lot of weak layers in the snow.

We were out in West Yellowstone over New Years and probably 25% of the slopes we saw had significant natural slides.

Here are some pics.

Crazy dangerous out there for sure, if your heading out West, be safe, there was a sledder triggered Avy today at Cooke City, at Lulu pass. http://www.mtavalanche.com/images/12/avalanches-lulu-pass?size=_original

Man, I called this happening in my other thread. People don't think Lulu can slide. Seems someone dies there by the cabin each year.

Seems someone dies there by the cabin each year.Yes, those shutes are very dangerous, and most don't realize how dangerous they are, here is a video we did while out at Lulu 2 weeks ago, this day the avy danger was "considerable", when we informed the group running the shutes, their comment, " its not too bad" so we filmed what they were doing wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYVxvwWYp1Y&feature=plcp&context=C38661c5UDOEgsToPDskIva_2okbSTtxoAhJYwl7FM

Very high!!! Teton Pass from Jackson to Idaho was closed for almost 36 hours due to avalanches. The Pass rarely closes except in the late night hours for planned Avy control. They say slopes slid on the pass that haven't slid in decades.

Jackson Hole Ski Resort was almost 3 hours late opening the Tram on Saturday. Ski Patrol triggered 100...yes 100...slides before they considered it safe to ski the in-bounds terrain accessible from the Tram.

If you come out west PLEASE be careful.

That is just plain nuts!! Can you imagine if that hill had any kind of mass above the rider? Holy crap, thats just bad news right there!

^^^ Main reason why you never ride above someone, and only One at a time on the hill^^^
