I have a new ranger 6x6 with an 800 motor. I was stunned to find out that the dealer charges $50 for an oil change. The oil change kit is $30 for a filter and 2 qts oil. Any reason why I couldn't use Mobil 1 and get a filter from the local parts store? I haven't looked at it,...is it a roayl pain in the ,....to do this. Thanks for your advice!

I have a outlander 800 and did a lot of research on oils. I landed on using Castrol Syntec 5w30.
You should be able to cross-reference the filter, so you can use a Fram or Napa filter. Or whatever brand you prefer. Then just use a good oil that fits to what the manufacturer suggests.

Walmart sells the filter for about $6 two quarts synthetic oil for $12. So you can save $10 to $12 maybe less.

Checked with Polaris, their Oil reccomendations are a Synthectic oil, Grade is 0W-40, API SL or Better. I would reccomend either a Wix or Napa filter, as they are rated one of the better filters. (as NAPA filters are made by Wix). Steer clear of any filter with the letters FRAM on it;)
I have used Fram in my Honda for 12+ years with no problem.

It usually takes a 6 pack to change the oil in mine:)
