Thinking of buying RZR and a yamaha four wheeler...where to ride in U.P. and N wisc??

Thinking of getting into the wheeled market and looking for nice trails to ride up north. RZR side by sides are allowed in MIchigan? Are they in wisconsin? Looking for trail map/permit/gas station/ rules info. Be nice to find places/resort to drop and ride right there.

rzr's are allowed on most trails in the western up, and some counties in wi. wi the county has to be part of the pilot program they have set up, havent hearn much news on that lately. i ride my rzr in the up quite a bit and have a blast. wish they would open the fire rds back up though. contact Mi-trale for mi info.

Gov. Walker was to sign a permanent utv program on 4-2-12. Not sure if the few counties that didnt allow utvs changed yet, but as off last year, you could ride utvs on just about every atv trail in the state. IIRC there was only about 2-3 counties that didnt allow them. But those counties didnt have many trails anyway. I put over 1000 miles on my rzr on trails last summer.

we ride a rzr 4 & comander in the Keweena and love it, trails are great. the new Keweena ATV maps will be out soon. we would never give up sledding but the side by sides are a blast all summer and Keweena is always great.

what are some places you guys stay at in the u.p.?
Im assuming in the u.p. the rzr width doesnt matter....but does only some trails can accomodate the wider rzr in wisc?

What sort of fire roads aren't you allowed to ride on? Is this in the Ottawa National Forest? They have rules in the Hiawatha for seasonal closures and what not but you're allowed to ride on them as far as I know depending on the dates.

I ride out of the Gogebic area. If you are on the West or North side of the lake you need to trailer to get to the trail head, if you stay on the East side you can ride from there.

in the Keweena the Keweena ATV club has done great things with dnr & club trails. you can see there web page for all the info. the rest of the western UP are run by http://mi-trale.org and from what i read they are adding new trails and have new maps out now. in the Keweena most all the towns & busness roll out the red carpet and need our $$ we ride from Lake Linden to Copper Harbor and there are no width limits just atv's & side by side's no trucks or dirt bikes. if you contact www.Keweenaw.info
they will send you a new atv map when they are ready. we have been riding utv's in the keweena for three years and it's a great way to see the up in the summer/ fall we get off the roads back in the woods you could get lost for a day and never see another person or stay on the trails and go from town to town and see what the trails look like with no snow. if you want there are places renting side by sides and atv's give it a try. good luck

Thanks to everyone....sounds like a fun time. Weve never had a bad time sledding up there so hopefully the atving will be the same. Plus we can ride more than half the year!
Only question I have left is how is the gas stops in between. I think were getting a 700 raptor and a rzr so I have no clue what size tanks or mileage they have.

you can ride a 60" rzr anywhere utvs are legal in WI except in Federal Forests. Fed Forest are 50" wide thoughtout the USA. Expect that rule to change though.

2011 and newer RZR get much better mpg than the older ones. Figure at least 110 miles per tank, but up to 180 miles depending on your driving style. This is trail miles. If you do rock crawling or mud bogging, then IDK.

We ride the Munising area. Good trails most of the time, lots of gas stops and food on the trail. But when it's dusty, it's DUSTY! Bring a bandana. We have both 4 wheelers and a side by side.
