Morrison will receive $11,000 for snowmobile trail
(AP) – State officials have awarded about $200,000 in grants for snowmobile trails statewide, including more than $11,000 for the city of Morrison.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources money is to be used for trail maintenance, equipment and safety improvement.
There are nearly 38,000 registered snowmobiles in Illinois.
The grants of regional interest include:
Carroll County
- $15,000 for Blackhawk Park District to upgrade and maintain the snowmobile trail between Stockton and Elizabeth. Funds will be used to repair or replace four snowmobile trail bridges and to add gates and posts.
- $7,110 for the city of Savanna to buy snowmobile trail signs and posts to mark two new public snowmobile trails. One trail will extend from Savanna to Mount Carroll, and the other will extend from Savanna to Thomson.
In addition, the Illinois Association of Snowmobile Clubs Inc. was given $80,000 to partially reimburse its annual cost of maintaining liability insurance, which is required on all public snowmobile trails in Illinois.

<font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font>,085 for the Flagg-Rochelle Park District to acquire a 1.7-mile-long, 40-foot-wide corridor adjacent to a proposed bike path in Rochelle.
Whiteside County
<font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font>,085 for the development of a 10-foot-wide, 0.8 of a mile long aggregate trail that extends north from the edge of Morrison. The eventual plan is to develop a trail that will reach Morrison-Rockwood State Park.
