looks like there will be a qb controversy in viking land. brett looked old and washed up, like i knew he would, jackson looks like an all-pro. 12 million a year doesn't get what it used to.

08-21-2009, 10:42 PM

Favre didn't look to out of place in NY wearing the Green and white but man to see him in the Purple and white. It was kinda like a man wearing a dress!

08-22-2009, 09:29 AM
ya think he would have played better if he had went thru training camp with his new team?

08-22-2009, 09:51 AM
The arm is still there. The quick release is still there. Jackson runs around like a rabbit and screws up the timing of every pass play. The Vikes will have to get used to playing with a real QB. Favre will be fine.

08-22-2009, 10:09 AM
He has only played for us for 3 days, he has to get the timing down.

Just another thing for everyone to get upset about! Lets let the season play out and see where we sit in January.

Dew...i agree with you on many things, except your sled choice and that Booty should start.

08-22-2009, 10:42 AM
yeah that purple just dont look right.... enjoy our old laundry..go pack

packer fan 4 ever

There's not another qb in the league that could come in after 2 1/2 days of practice and know the offense enough to actually run it in a game. Like he said, he could run this offense with his eyes closed, so wait until he gets his timing down with the receivers and revisit this topic. I thought it was fun to see the ball getting to the receivers at the speed it does, it's been awhile since a Vikes qb threw like that.

Come January, we all know where the team would be if they had to rely on the qb's that were in training camp.

08-23-2009, 07:29 PM
Didn't TJack have 4 or 5 series of offense to BF's 2? Didn't TJack have 2 weeks of practice to BF's 2 days. Let's give ole' BF a chance to catch up!

08-23-2009, 08:08 PM
Do you think T-Jack can lead this team to a play-off win? Well???? Didn't think so!!!! If this fails with Favre we all know that Chilldress will be fired and a real coach will be hired next season!

08-24-2009, 12:53 AM
Things are not going to go well for Judas Favre in Heidi hair land. On the other hand Aaron Rogers is looking like an all-pro...Whooo hooo

I'll be at Lambeau for Brett's reunion, lets hope he can last that long.

Go Pack Go

08-24-2009, 05:16 AM
yup old number 12 is looking outstanding so far....

08-24-2009, 11:21 AM

08-24-2009, 12:56 PM
Now that there's funny. I don't care what you say.
I agree, he's never had Lutefisk.

08-24-2009, 12:56 PM
who cares about pre season? with any team? the players dont even care!

08-24-2009, 01:00 PM
Anyone else thinking this is looking an awful lot like the last time the Vikes signed a "future hall of fame QB"? What was his name??? Was it Archie Manning?

08-24-2009, 01:19 PM
I think it was Archie Bunker.

08-24-2009, 06:56 PM
Yep, the Mighty Purple take all the washed up guys from Wisconsin. Let's see...Longwell, washed up. Sharper, after 3 good years here, washed up. I think the Badger state's inhabitants get a little too combative when it comes to the Packers. It's a business, and YOUR team made a business decision. Free agency means that players can play wherever they want, and most of the players who become free agents, are no longer wanted by their old team. Rodgers is your quarterback, and became it when Favre was told by management that he wasn't going to be able to compete for the job he had been doing for 17 years. Get over it!! In the off season he went back to Mississippi, so he wasn't a resident of Wisconsin. I am not saying he is the answer for the Vikings, but he's better than what we had.

08-25-2009, 01:38 PM

I am not even much of a fan, I just couldn't help but think of this after your post:

Ante Josip "Tony" Mandarich (born September 23, 1966 in Oakville, Ontario) is a former football offensive lineman of the NFL. He was the first round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 1989, second overall behind Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, and ahead of the third selection, Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, the fourth selection, Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas, and the fifth selection, perennial All-Pro cornerback Deion Sanders.

Good point...everybody needs to remember, it is a business they could really care less what we the fans really think or feel.

08-25-2009, 02:18 PM
Thanks Marty,
A few of us in the office have discussed that season and draft many times. First off, the Pack screwed-up and beat the Vikes, allowing the Cowboys to finish last in the league and get the first overall pick. One of the guys was at the game, a game that we call "The Troy Aikman Bowl" with a brown paper sack for his head, but ended up not wearing it because the Packer fans were still cheering wildly for their team and he figured they wouldn't appreciate the joke.

The Cowboys select Troy Aikman and they go on to build a dynasty and the Pack selects old Tony Mandarich...in my opinion the biggest bust of all time. He finally admitted to his steroid use, but the damage was done. The Packer drafts from the '70s and '80s have to be some of the worst in league history. The 1989 draft was the best example of that.

I'm a Packer fan first, but the Vikes are my second favorite.

08-25-2009, 02:31 PM

Don't forget the real story behind the Dallas dynasty of the early 90’s, “The Trade”, Herschel Walker…no more need be said.

08-25-2009, 02:33 PM
I wasn't going to mention that.

08-25-2009, 05:22 PM
"The Trade" was made at a time when the Vikings window was closing, and they knew it. The biggest problem that occurred was that Schnelker had NO IDEA how to use Herschel, or was just too stupid to make the offense originate around Herschel. The entire Vikings team was old or losing a step already, which was confirmed by the Denny Green purge in '92. Yes, the Vikings gave up alot, in draft choices, but only 2 Viking players, I think, ever played for the Cowboys. Many of the Vikings who played from '86 to '91 were guys who started their careers in the USFL(Anthony Carter, Keith Millard, etc.) By the time Green took over, 90 percent of the team had seen their best days. Just my 2 cents...

08-25-2009, 05:29 PM
There is absolutely no way you can justify that trade, don't even try.

08-25-2009, 05:59 PM
"The Trade" was ranked as the worst sports trade of all time in 2008 by Sports Illustrated.

I'm with xcr440.

Again, I wasn't going to bring that up.

08-25-2009, 07:14 PM
You are right, the Vikes probably would have gotten away with Nelson, Solomon, and a first round pick. BUT, Mike Lynn was desparate AND wanted to cut payroll. Remember the sports climate from then: Twins win World Series in '87, Vikes lose at goalline in Washington right after when Nelson drops ball. MIKE LYNN is the person who thought the Vikes needed Herschel Walker, not the coaching staff. MIKE LYNN is still the guy who basically stole the franchise from Max Winter, and is still getting all the money from the luxury boxes at the Metrodome. I am not trying to validate the trade, just explain it. When you are one dropped pass from the Super Bowl, I guess "management" gets tunnel vision. To me, that loss was tougher than '98, because they would have actually won the big one.

12-17-2009, 06:23 PM
This thread about Favre sitting the bench all season sure stopped in a hurry!

12-17-2009, 06:41 PM
hehe all the vike threads stoped I wounder why?everyone out sleddin?

12-18-2009, 09:55 AM
Favre IS the Minnesota vikings! Way to call it earlier fools. Go Vikings!

12-21-2009, 09:13 PM
Brent who???????????

12-22-2009, 10:16 AM
Still seems to be a relevant topic. Wonder if Brent will quit when Chilly finally has the nuts to bench him. Can't blame the Pack for trading this premadonna. His "I'm the best" attitude does not work within a TEAM. He is all about padding his records.
Merry Christmas

12-22-2009, 11:29 AM
espn analyst(can't remember who) said that Childress is trying to reign him in because he isn't going with his style. Questionable audibles, etc. By the way, I like that name Chilly...LOL.

Watch out for my Bengals, they will limp into the playoffs but I fully expect a good showing in the playoffs.

By the way, I enjoy listening to both sides of of this Favre/Packers/Vikes debate on here, it makes for good entertainment.

12-22-2009, 12:15 PM
Perhaps this is all part of Chilly's master plan. You know - the plan where other teams figure out that the way to beat the Vikes is with constant pressure on the immobile Favre and then put in someone they haven't seen all season - Sage Rosenwhatever. They will have no tape of the Mighty Sage and he will crush them. Then again, maybe not.

12-22-2009, 09:33 PM
Like it or not. Favre is a great QB and is exactly what the Vikes need. Hopefully they can protect him and give some blocking to Peterson so he can get some big running yards again. If these things can happen, the Vikes will win some playoff games and who knows what else. Farve is the best solution possible considering all things for the Vikes and I commed Chilly for getting him.

12-23-2009, 12:01 PM
Favre is God

12-23-2009, 12:25 PM
Oh,.... how Quickly the bandwagon folks turn. LOL!
Packers fans spend entire season getting an ear full and
saying "just wait".
Can't say we didn't tell ya so.

There are Still games to be played.
I Loved the ESPN and FOX takes, on how
There is now tension between the players and #4
and especially CHILLY!

Ahh,... Just remember. HE loves the audible.
Just like when he called OUT of a running play,
rolled out to his right, and threw it directly to a
wide open GIANT. Hhmmmmmmm.

12-23-2009, 09:38 PM
hey guys,, i really dont think they were fighting about bench time,,,i heard it was about who has the biggest paycheck.........lol
