I'm here. I decided to drive to work today. It is the first time my truck has moved in two weeks. Ahhh, freedom! The knee hurts a bit when I move from the gas pedal to the brake, so I have been using my left foot to brake most of the time. The doctor typically doesn't want people driving until 3 weeks after surgery, but he didn't say no to me at my appointment on Tuesday. I wouldn't want to drive a long distance where my foot would have to be on the gas pedal though. That would really start irritate the knee.
I am also walking now without crutches. More freedom! I walk with a limp, but I'm walking.
Time for knee exercises!

Well, I didn't get the job. The recruiter and I are completely baffled by it. Their reason was due to a topic of experience that wasn't even on the job description or discussed in the interview. I am extremely pissed off. If that's how they do business, then I don't want to work there.
Now... without a job... we are circling the drain - it's bad.
I'm gonna get some cocktails...

PDF Jeff - great to see you out here too!
Dan - Thanks man! I appreciate your support!
Brother Vinnie, thanks for the support... THANKS TO ALL OF YOU for the support. It really means a lot to me. I'm trying to keep my chin up... but I keep getting hit... and it's starting to piss me off. I've noticed the amount of jobs has really fallen off - in the beginning of my 6 months of pure HELLo there were a lot of opportunities to apply for... now not so much. I'm scared, but trying to hang in there. THANK YOU ALL for your support!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!
SO yeah... Facebook sure is an addiction! School is also taking up a huge portion of my time. More than I'd like it to. I find that when I read my text that I have to re read it.. it's complicated stuff and it's not sinking in. The professor for the class I am taking now I not very good... he gives us the wrong information for the quiz. My grade is not good right now... I've got 3 weeks and the final to get it back up to an A. I can't lose my 4.0 cuz of this class.
Other than that… we are pushing through. It's the most scary time in our lives and it's taking its toll. I just wish I a job for me would land! Jim is still searching as well but a job for me is required for not only the income but the insurance benefits. Jim is still tied to his union. Totally doubt that he will be called back, but if he is, he is required to return to work or lose his union benefits and his unemployment. So, he's basically held hostage until Fabcon is fully done with him.
Okay… enough gloom and doom… it's COLD OUTSIDE! How about another Halloween Blizzard?? That would be friggin' awesome!!!

Jul, Has your hubby thought of looking outside the area for work through his union? Most unions have differant locals through their international and sometimes you can work out of a diff local. I know many guy's down here move to Vegas when they get older or need for health reasons to get to a warmer/drier area and get work that way.
I'm not saying Vegas that was just an example.
Just a thought

Wags, thanks for the info... Jim and I have never looked past his local union. I didn't realize that his local union is attached to LIUNA. So, with that, I will make sure I tell him about that! Maybe those union dues we've been paying will pay off? THANKS FOR THE INFO!

We got 4 of the 5 songs in the top 10 today! Let's get them all there. Listen to each song for about 25 seconds (or the whole thing if you want), rate it a 5 and click the next one.
http://www.foxcountry.net/new2/artists/i/248426?psid
If you want, you can find a local Clear Channel Country station in your area. Some make it harder to find, but usually click on music tab, new music, then look for unsigned artists and an artist search for Randy VanVooren. Once you get to "unsigned artists", you can also pick his name off the top 20 list.
Here's the Clear Channel link if you want to find a station in your area. Just type in your state and find a local Country station.

I agree with Bradzoo. I am still am alive (I think) and I haven't been on Facebook much lately, it's just that I don't have anything to say either. My life lately is go to work, go to physical therapy, eat, sleep (at least try to sleep), etc. Plus work has been super busy so I haven't had a chance to even lurk much.
Julie - I'm sorry the job prospect didn't happen. Hopefully something will come up soon. I understand what you are saying about your teacher. In the few college courses that I took, I had Accounting 1 with a horrible teacher. I couldn't grasp what he was trying to teach. I ended up with a C in the class. The following semester I took Accounting 2. The teacher was great and explained things really well. I ended up with an A in the class. The way a person teaches does make a big difference.
BigVin - I hope you find employment soon, too. I am thankful I have my job, but you never know how long any job will last these days. It's scary.
Hello to everyone else.
I must get back to work so I can try to leave here on time tonight.

Omg I missed Julie's Birthday! (i didn't even catch it on facebook)
Happy belated birthday!
I have been clogged down with a whole bunch of school work lately, and I have finally got most of the work done for this batch of assignments. I am doing fairly well in most of the classes except math, I am normally really good with math but have been making very silly mistakes/ conveniently forgetting what to do only when the test is in front of me, Anyway I could take the course again next semester if need be, arghh
Anyway I haven't really been up to much other than school lately......
I am starting to think about getting my webcam and running again for the year as fall starts to get in full swing, but do not want to dedicate my laptop to running the cam this year. I am thinking about building a pc especially for low power consumption so I can leave the computer up 24/7 so the webcam is more reliable.
I am making no promises, but I hope to be back around here more often even though I am having to use a proxy as my ISP cannot access the website directly still.....
If I can just get through tomorrow, I will be rewarded with a weekend!

HAPPY SATURDAY! It's still raining here, but that's fine... we need it! The lake is down FIVE FEET!
How are y'all doing? Yeah… FACEBOOK is addicting… all those fun games. It's so much fun to be back in touch with classmates, old friends and relatives that live 3000 miles away. Cheaper than a phone call and I can see pictures of all my nieces and nephews and friends kids. I love it!
Scoop - I'm glad that you are feeling better and getting back to the busy life - just don't get too busy til that knee is good to go!!
Brad, you be careful with that shoulder mister!
OH CANADA DAVE! That's okay that you missed my birthday… it wasn't much fun this year. Hopefully next year it will be! GOOD LUCK with school… keep plugging away… I know how are it is… school is kicking my butt!
Liz - YES YES YES Snow out West! I'm watching the news, the weather and looking at the cams to see it! LOVE IT! Hoping for a Halloween Blizzard here… just like the one in 1991… so I can ride my sled here.
<font size="+2">CLICK FOR VINNIE!!! There are 4 in the top 10… and the 5th is #11. So CLICK CLICK CLICK! He's songs are GREAT so we need to get them on the AIRWAVES! http://www.k102.com/new2/discover/index.html?format=177</font>
We are gonna have a fun filled weekend! Today we are all going to Mr. Ellis' house for a bonfire party. VERY MUCH FUN! Haven't seen my SLED CHICKS in a while so it will be good to see them all! GIDDY!
Tomorrow I'm taking the kids down to Corey and Melanie's for Makenzie's birthday party!
Jim has been home since Wednesday and it looks like he will be here for the weekend as well. So I'm super happy about that! He's busting his arse to find work ANYWHERE! It's been 9 months since he was laid off from Fabcon... I'm doubting he will be called back. If he is not called back by January 16th then he is free from them. I'm thinking that could be a good thing.
I'm starting my third job opportunity. A third recruiter called me this past week for another really good job. It's for a facilities division, they need someone to do their analysis to make sure they are operating within their budgets and do the measurement analysis on their efficiencies and effectiveness of their workforce. The hiring manager has been out sick all week, so it looks like next week will start that interview process. It would be a really good job for me. I'm more relaxed with this one… not so whipped up. But then again, I've not met with the hiring manager yet. Hopefully that will be early next week.
Okay, back to work… gotta clean up the house so we can be gone the rest of the weekend!

Went up to the cottage this weekend and finally got to do some bowhunting. Wasn't much action, kinda harder now with no bait rule and I don't think the full moon helped things. Saw three doe Saturday evening but no good shot so the freezer still empty. Other than that things are well here. Still got a job which isn't a given in this state anymore. The other thing occupyin my time is raising teens...everyday is INTERESTING. Oh and when I was up in Grayling we drove up to Gaylord and I got my trail sticker from Extreme...35 bucks this year...hope they use the money wisely. Got me in the mood to do some ridin though. Talk at you all soon.

Jeff, didn't make it over to the grass drags, ended up working all weekend, hard to pass up the OT.
Well heard from the Doctors office and work comp. looks like Oct 23rd is when I'll have my surgery, if nothing comes up.

Ugh, Monday. A whole week of work to go. I thought I would drop in and see what is going on here.
I cut the grass on one side and the front yard yesterday. I was so happy to see my neighbor's son walking over to me when I was just about finished with the front. He finished the other side and back for me. I have to say my knee isn't quite ready to do my whole lawn yet. It was pretty sore after half of the lawn. My doctor would probably kill me if he knew I tried it.
Bradzoo - I'm sure I will wish you this again before the 23rd, but good luck with surgery. Get it done! I ran around on an unstable knee for 3 years and ended up making it worse than if I had something done right away. You live and learn.
Andie - What a bunch of cripples we have around here!

Thanks Nate!
The interview is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:00 PM. I meet with the decision maker... so it will be just the one interview then he makes the decision.
The only potential problem is the drive... 31 miles one way. So, I need to make sure they have the flexibility in the work hours and allow for remote working. Cus that drive will SUCK serious BUTT in the snowy time. Heck... in this rain it sucks... traffic is backup today cuz it's raining!
Have fun watching the game!!! I couldn't care less - but the Vikings suck and the Pack are always fun to watch.

Good Luck with the job interview, but only 31 miles one way??? Lets see, now that our office merged with another hospital and we are at a different location, I drive 36 miles one way and Serena drives 38 miles one way. Needless to say, we are NOT happy campers and it isn't even winter yet. And did I mention that we hate the miserable traffic down here, and the crummy places to go out to eat and the crummy drive in and drive home??
But good luck!!!

Speaking of Huck, he is doing great. I will try and post some pics of him out here for those of you not on FB. He is already 8 months old and he's growing like a weed. He's trying to crawl but not quite there yet. And no teeth yet which is just fine by mommy. His ear infection is all cleared up so he's his lively self again!

Well, thanks to those that kept your fingers crossed for me. Apparently I was one of 100 going for a new position and got it. Problem is, the comp is not what I expected so not sure what to do now.

Ok heres the info on the surgery, its gonna take about 2 hours, they have to sew up the rotator cuff with kevlar thread, then the bones in my shoulder have been rubbing together so they have to grind them down, then they have scrape out some Arithritis that has started forming in the joint because of the injury, now for the fun part the tendon is frayed and has become detached from the bone so they are going to put in some screws with kevlar loops on them, they put the screws into the bone and cut the tendon and thread the tendon through the kevlar loops and sew it back together with kevlar thread, apparently these screws will desolve in about a year leaving the tendon tied back down to the bone. I don't know about you guy's but it scares the crap out me, I hope it works. Now for the good news I might be able to go for a ride the end of Feb. first part of March but prolly just trails no boondockin. Just might have to hire me a gumba to tag along and start the big old 800 either that or put on the electric start.HAHAHAA
Forgot to mention they are gonna tape it all and give me a copy, some beers and popcorn or maybe a taco salad and we could have movie nite.HAHAHA

So when do you do all this? How long will you be off work? You have hire Jim to be your gumba... He won't have anything else to do all winter.
Scoopy - Good to hear that you are getting around and your knee is doing well!
Still no job here. I am still looking at two opportunities, with today being a "holiday" I didn't hear anything of either one. So hopefully tomorrow has some news.
I've gone through all my job boards and have updated my resumes on all of them. So maybe this week I will get some more calls.
Other than that... nothing but some BEAUTIFUL SNOW today!

Brad - Your shoulder sounds eerily familiar, just like mine 4 years ago. There is an old thread that has a lot of great info and advice that you may want to read through before your surgery. See MISCELLANEOUS/ROTATOR CUFF(TORN).
I'll only offer my best bits of advice:
1) Buy Kelly a nice dinner and some flowers now, you're gonna need the credit-the first days after the surgery you'll understand.
2) Make sure you have some "old man pants", elastic waist so you can get them on & off by yourself with only one arm.
3) If this is your dominant arm - start learning how to wipe your butt with the other hand now!
Any questions, just ask!
Ken

Bradzoo - Youch! Your description of surgery makes me hurt, but I guess I had some similar stuff done to my knee. I know that they took a a piece of bone from my patella, a third of my tendon in the front of my knee, and a piece of bone from my tibia and drilled holes in my femur and tibia and threaded the bone-tendon-bone through the drilled holes and Wallah! I have a replaced ACL (at least I think I have that right). I think they hold the bone plugs in with screws, but I'm not sure. I don't think I really wanted to know. Boy, your lucky to get a video. All I got were before and after pictures. Good luck with surgery and heal quick!
Ken - wow, you had a knee and a shoulder done? Yuck!
BigVin - No snow south of you, only a few flakes mixed with rain. I would have preferred the snow. Yesteday was downright dreary here.
Squat - You really need to find a sled! You can't go without riding this winter, although I should talk after riding a whole 230 miles last year.
Enough typing. Back to work.

10-13-2009, 07:54 PM
Scoop - Yeah, I'm just lucky that way. Right shoulder(rotator cuff) was 4.5 years ago. Left knee(ACL) was almost 2 years to the day after the shoulder.
Being right handed it really messed up my bowling game. The shoulder was healed in 3-4 months, but full strength and coordination took probably 18 months. The knee was about the same to heal, still wondering if it'll ever feel good every day. Have good days and bad, but I pretty much destroyed my knee in one stupid move....
When it comes to going through PT for joint injuries, I've been there at the extreme end and learned a lot. Any questions just ask. Just do what they tell you religiously because it will all be worth it. This is definitely a case where you get out of it what you put in to it.

Well Eric, might as well bite the bullet and get it done, that way when the girls are out sledding I'll have company at the bar, actually it'll be you, me and Larry cause it doesn't look like he will ready to ride anytime soon. Sucks cause I would rather be down in the summer, I can fish one handed, gonna be bad missing deer hunting and sleddin in the same year, but I might be able to hunt I been practicing with my 44mag left handed and I'm doing pretty good as long as its under 50yrds.

Scoopy - still doing PT on my knee - feels better - swelling down - but I think I need a new shoe wardrobe! I have all heels (mostly 3 inches or 4 inches) and it seems my knee is not real keen on those! http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/sad.gif I'm still hoping I can get by with just PT!!
Ken - how's the bowling going this year? We pre-bowled on Sunday night and I had a 109 average. Terrible - I know! I kicked butt tho - so I'm hoping I can get back up to my 130's average yet!!!

I have abandoned wearing anything with even a slight heel and went to flat shoes. I'm glad to hear the knee is doing better. It will take time to heal, I'm sure. Be patient.
Ken - I miss bowling. I haven't bowled in years and right now I couldn't bowl if I wanted to. One of these days I will get back into it.
Bradzoo - My knee bends just fine, so no ape hangers for me! The problem is that the knee is still sore when doing certain things (like bending and straighening!). Hopefully that will go away or get better by the time I want to ride.

I'm gonna drink heavily now cuz I just took my last quiz and my score SUCKED AZZ. AND I submitted the answers to the 5 essay questions for our final exam. This class may be the one to knock me out of my 4.0 status. The final will be my last chance to pull it off...

Hi all, I ran into Nasty Sue and Tomass at the Milwaukee snow show. They are such good people. I just saw Tomass on the T.V. His brother was excepting his check for winning the powerball! Congrats to him!

Words can not even explain this whole powerball thing! I am so excited for Doug, (that's is name) the entire family got together to celebrate, still hard to believe, he already bought a few vehicles, this is the first time in his life he will own a new car/truck.
Skylar, great talking with you and your brother, sure hope we can meet up and ride together this year.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROCK!
What a dreary day and the day matches my mood. I'm tired of getting the news that another paper facility has been slated for closure. When is it all going to stop? It really brings me down when I hear about all the people that have or will be losing their job. It really makes me worry about the stability of my job.
Suzy - It seemed like Doug sort of lived a low key life. It's so cool that he will have a couple of new vehicles and anything else he could want. I used to play the same numbers on a Mega-Millions multi-draw when I lived in Michigan. Since moving, I haven't been as dedicated in playing the same numbers in WI with Powerball. I think I may have to start up my multi-draw again. Maybe I'll win 20 years from now!
Squat - I would like to go to the Ride-In. I must try and ride this year. I will have to find some money somewhere though.
Kaboo - Hmmmm, grass drags. I could get out of "volunteer" work stuff if I came to your grass drags. It could be a plan! Let me think about it.

Ohhhh Jim and I are REALLY HOPING to be at the Ride In--- we are still in search of money... who knows... we might find some. Jobs would come in handy too.
Dustin says we have to go to the ride in... he has to meet John Dee because of the Born to Ride DVDs. He watches them nearly every day. He also wants to meet Matt Downey. Oh yeah and he says it would be nice to meet Skylar too...
So hopefully we will be there... just can't say for sure yet.

Bradzoo - I'm glad the surgery went well and you are all fixed up. Rest and take those pain pills. Time will seem to go slow when recovering but then all of the sudden there is less pain and you will be able to move the arm again. I know about the sleeping problems. I couldn't sleep with my leg underneath my comforter because the pressure from the weight of the comforter bothered my knee. For four weeks I had to sleep with my leg on top of the comforter.
On another note, this is what either the pain pills or most likely the remanents of the anesthetic did to me. I called my friend in Chicago last week to wish her a very belated birthday because her birthday was the day after my surgery and I forgot. I left her a voice mail saying happy birthday and I was also calling because I hadn't spoken to her for a while. She calls me back and said "boy, you must have had some good drugs because she spoke to me the afternoon after my surgery. I have no recollection of our conversation at all and she said we spoke for at least a half hour. How scary is that?

Is his a 144? I remember Jim,s was. How did he like the whe way it handled on the trail?
Randy
I was thinking the same thing. Here is what i'm still thinking tho, I ditch bang around here quite a bit and it would be good for that. I dont trail ride all that much here. I'm going to go western UP most of the time this year it looks like so I could break trail for everyone! lol Also if i wheck the track this year I can always get a 1.5" next year or trade it in on a nes sled. Humm what to do?
mrsjac95
10-30-2009, 09:29 AM
Squat - Jim's OLD 800 Summit (sold to Doug) is the 144 with 2" paddle. His NEW 1000 Summit is a 163 with a 2.5" paddle. That is the one that burned down last year - 4.8 miles into the first ride. He had to completely rebuild the engine. That one is specifically set up for high elevation right now - so he won't be riding that unless it's out West. He has his 1000 Renegade that will be his trail sled.
Doug has the 800 144 2" which is the one that Jim rode and got stuck on that little tiny hill in Paradise. It's a 2" paddle and does just fine on the trails.
Revegade is a 136 2" and does good on trails too.
Randy is right - when you are behind it, you get totally bombarded with track spray! Which is REALLY annoying!
Have you sold your motorcycle yet? What motorcycle did you buy?

Squat, I would opt for the 1.25" or 1.5" lug if you are going to do 50% groomed trail riding. 2" paddles on hard pack don't do well. Like Juls said, you will need to get in some deep snow every so often to lub the hyfax or they will melt and you will be screwed. You will know if you are melting hyfax as it smells like hot burnt plastic (well, it is.) If you do mostly off trail 2"+, get-r-done.
Squat, sent you an e-mail about it. I'm changing my track this year from a 2" to a 1.5" The 2" does not like hard pack. The other thing is like Julie said, being behind a 2" track on the trail is not fun. It kicks up snow/ice pellets and shoots them like a salad shooter......

Another dreary day, but at least it's Friday. Life has been somewhat boring lately. I did find out my Dad has a blockage in his heart. He is supposed to go next week to either have an angioplasty done or a stent put in. I sort of wish he was having it done the following week because I took some vacation time and had planned to go down to Chicago on Thursday the 12th. We'll see what happens.
K-Boo - I'm still considering coming to the grass drags. I guess it depends on what happens with my Dad and whether I should change my vacation days. I will talk to my sister this weekend. I actually have a vacation day next Friday the 6th as well. I had 7 vacation days I had to use or lose by the end of the year and that's not including the days I took off between Christmas and New Years.
Squat - I don't know if I would go with the 2" track either. I rode with someone last year that had either a 2" or possibly a 2-1/2" track. We were riding trails and he constantly had to go out of his way to get into fresh snow. It didn't look too fun to me. Plus, with he unreliability of the snow depth in some years, I would rather have a sled that can handle less snow. Just my 2 cents!
Back to doing some boring computer work. Zzzzzzz.

Well, I'm at my Dad's in Chicago. I came down a week early because he had a blockage in his heart and I thought I would come down and help out my sister since she has been taking my Dad everywhere. We thought that my Dad would stay at the hospital tonight and I would pick him up tomorrow. The great news is that he has a blockage but they didn't do anything because his body adapted and grew new blood vessels around the blockage and the blood flow through the new vessels was good. The only thing he has to watch for is blot clots for the next 24 hours at the site where they went in. It was nice to have some good news.
The other good news is that I am on vacation for the rest of the week. Yippee!

LOL I didn't really need anything I bought but had to pick up the Hot Dogger that thing is highly recommended for boondockers..speaking of boondocking I talked to Rob about our conversation and we would love to ride with you two some time when your 100% back to yourself.
Rob picked up 7 a couple of weeks ago and agrees JD n Crew needed more air time. It does get the blood following. Price was so cheap there R paid 30 by mail there it was 3 for 25. Silly boy couldn't wait http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif
Hi Everyone hope all is well and Y'all are feeling great!

Serena, Shoulder was hurting all nite, must have been all the walking and a few people bumping into it, there were more people at the show than I expected, it was nice 1st thing in the morning.
We did look at a couple of new sleds, evertime we went back the deal got alittle better

Hey all!
Just wanted to stop by and say hi. Things here are about the same... no jobs and no money.
I do have an interview today for a Data Analyst position. It would be a great opportunity - but I'm afraid to get excited about it.
Thanksgiving is fast approaching! I've invited my parents to join us - so I've got my work cut out for me getting the house ready for my Mom to be here. That is keeping me busy - thankfully.
Math class is this session as well - So far so good. It's hard stuff to understand, but if I get the 3 units done and the final done before the end of November, I won't have classes again 'til after New Years! I would LOVE the break!
Other than that... we are still plugging away.
I hope all those who have had surgery are healing and feeling better and those who are going to have surgery I hope it goes well for ya!
Take care!

I am grasping at straws here but, is anybody interested in swapping their extra sled for my 1985 21' Bayliner open bow. It has a 125 hp, 4 cylinder Volvo inboard/outboard motor, fish/depth finder, stereo, and a lot of boat toys to go with it. It has been professionally winterized and is ready for water (come spring or now if you like). I have never had any issues with the boat other than some of the upholstery is cracked and torn. The boat is worth approx. $3500-4000. If any one is interested, e-mail me at proscope@q.com.

It's Sunday already! WOW! Can't believe it's Sunday already.
Okay, so the great job interview I had last week for the Data Analyst - the company cancelled the job requisition! So that is done.
The next thing I have is a phone interview on Monday.
I hope everyone is having fun deer hunting and their getting their "big one!"
