just kidding. i got this shed for free. i closed up the existing doorway on the 10 foot wide side and cut 2 new doorway's on the 8 foot wide sides and i now have a free drive through shed. it's a little rough but i already have some nice exterior paint and i'm gonna go to menards to get my supplies for the doors. it's officially called Scott's Sled Shed.. i'm 14 n 1/2 but i have my own 8x10 sled garage
10-10-2009, 05:59 PM
Hey indy,I'll bet your dad just LOVED this idea!!
10-10-2009, 06:54 PM
that's actually him in the last picture helping me out! he hated this idea! my mom was the one that let me do it. i hate having to take my sled off our enclosed trailer all the time and my mom would get annoyed listening to me annoy my dad to take it off. so she told my dad we should make something and at my mom's work a lady 1 block away from us (lol) had an 8x10 shed for free and fortunately we just bought a 2nd trailer that's 8.5x10 and we went and got it. i'm painting it tomorrow morning and going to menards to get a good tarp for the doors.
10-10-2009, 07:00 PM
the funny part is my dad had his own little sled shed when he was younger but yet my dad said "i don't want an eye sore sitting outside!!" and my mom said "well honey, what did you have when you were a kid?" and i just burst out laughing
10-10-2009, 07:21 PM
Your not kidding INDY, you dont have to hide the truth from us. Its tough out there, and we know it! You should really take it on a road trip as see how many smiles you get.
10-10-2009, 07:55 PM
Hey Indy, once you get a coat of paint on it and a foot of snow on top it will look just great. Put some fancy Polaris stickers on the side and maybe an Indy flag on a pole and your dad will want to move his sled in with yours. Good luck!
10-10-2009, 08:08 PM
Ha,ha that is great, really made me laugh seeing it on the trailer.
Can't wait to see the finished project.
10-10-2009, 09:21 PM
we picked out brown paint. nice exterior stuff that can be applied at 32 degrees. it was a can that was mixed with the wrong color so it was $12. i'm gonna paint polaris and maybe the logo and "scott's sled shed" on it with white exterior paint. i got the tarps. $1.75 each. i bought 4 and they're brown. i'm gonna double them up. hang them from the 2x4 mounted frame around the doorway and at the bottom i'm gonna attach a 2x4 for weight. i'm almost done! tomorrow morning i'll put the paint on. then when it's dry, i'll mount my tarp doorways. then i'll go crazy with the inside. maybe some custom shelves. maybe a radio...lol i don't know yet
10-10-2009, 09:37 PM
don't forget to post some more pics when finished
10-10-2009, 09:38 PM
i will don't worry. another funny picture i should've taken was about 2 weeks ago on my way home from school i guy had a four wheeler on top of a geo metro

Skidoodoug took the words right out of my mouth!!!
Keep up the good work!!

Nice job Indy! Wait to go.
kevisip, the first two threads you did that to were kind of funny, now it's geting old.
10-11-2009, 05:11 PM
indy 500, I have good news!! The switch will just fit in your shed. Keep up the ambition, the world needs more young men like you. We are waiting for a finished product pic.
10-11-2009, 05:59 PM
that is clasic ditch monster material
10-11-2009, 08:42 PM
thanks for the compliments
i got more pictures. i got the whole shed painted included the panels for the doors. and i got the frames for the doors made. all i need to do tomorrow is attach the painted panels to the frame and put the new hinges on and attach it to the shed, put some handles on, and figure out some kind of lock.
10-11-2009, 08:43 PM
and if it ever warms up i'll put on the second coat. i actually do kind of like the "weathered look" without a second coat. but i'll probably get another coat on soon. enjoy
10-12-2009, 04:37 PM
since you guys loved how i built this mostly myself, here's something else i built that i figured you guys would laugh at

OK I'll bite..........what is the last picture? A little groomer http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif
The shed idea was pretty darn good, and it doesnt look all that bad after the paint! Nice job.
10-12-2009, 05:22 PM
I liked the first pic the best - that would be a great enclosed trailer if it would hold together.
10-12-2009, 05:25 PM
indy, youre killin' me!! nice job on the shed.
10-12-2009, 07:10 PM
I agree, mini groomer. Indy is going to drag that behind his sled from his house to the trail. Another thing that does the same thing is an old bed spring with some concrete blocks on it.
10-12-2009, 07:18 PM
yup exactly it's a groomer! I almost did the old bed spring but it's too wide for what i need to fit through. i'm thinking of grooming the minitrails i make to get to the trails this year. i've been using a groomer in my yard for about 3 years. i've made them with just 4 x4's and just made a rectangle, i've used a pallet, and i think this one is the best so far. It also hides up the dirt so my mom doesn't yell at me for ripping something up http://www.johndee.com/discuss/clipart/happy.gif
10-12-2009, 07:43 PM
Oh, bummer, I thought it was a spear fishing hole..

10-14-2009, 04:34 PM
10-14-2009, 04:49 PM
that's basically waht it was. lol. it was a yellow honda on top of a yellow geo metro
10-14-2009, 05:06 PM
Who needs a spare tire when you've got a spare ride!
(Which is probably worth more than the car.)
10-14-2009, 05:19 PM
hey indy lets see that one off bike in ur picture of the groomer
10-14-2009, 06:11 PM
haha indy you kill me.
10-14-2009, 06:40 PM
10-14-2009, 06:44 PM
2 more pics of the shed. i built the little sign for it. the doors are put on hold because i need to paint the frames and it's been too cold/rainy
10-14-2009, 06:49 PM
here's the bike. i won it 2 years ago and my dad was riding it and he had it in the highest gear going up a hill and he broke the sprocket off. i customized the gearing system and put the small tire on the back. i got a front and rear rack. i have extra tall handlebars from a junker bike. i painted the whole thing and added the little sheets of paneling in between the frame. i also have a pic of a tandem bike i made. enjoy. (i know u will)
10-14-2009, 06:51 PM
here's a different angle of the normal bike. i rode it every day to school last year. the thing rides so nice. everyone looks at it and laughs then they ride it and they can't believe how nice it rides
10-14-2009, 07:47 PM
Indy 500, you will have to call me when you graduate, I think I will have a job for you! Fabricator. pays pretty good too!
10-14-2009, 07:54 PM
does it involve a payment of a 2005 switchback 600?
10-14-2009, 07:59 PM
This thread belongs in the JD epic storage vault.. Well done all around, Indy. You have a bright future ahead.
10-14-2009, 08:25 PM
Maybe, why you ask?? The switch is going to get a rebuild on the motor, it's getting tired. I may stuff a 700 in it. Anyways I love your work!
10-18-2009, 07:59 PM
i'm all finished with the shed! got the frames painted yesterday, put the frames on today then i put the sheet metal onto the frames today. and i put handles on. right now all i have is bungee cords on the handles i need bigger locks so i'm basically 99.9% finished!
10-18-2009, 08:23 PM
French Doors, so..neat! I think your on to sumpin!
10-18-2009, 08:59 PM
indy 500, it's looking good. I was just thinking about your doors. You may want to raise the shed off the ground a bit. Openning the doors will require you to shovel all the snow away to the ground to open. That will get old. You need room to swing doors open. I gotta go drill some holes See Ya!
10-18-2009, 09:55 PM
yeah, i know about the opening doors and having snow in the way. the east side doors won't get any snow, so i put 2 hinges on each door. the west side doors which get all the snow i put 3 on each door. i might put a little bit of snow fence up to keep snow away from the doors
10-19-2009, 08:51 PM
i got on a second coat of paint today! it looks awesome! and the lady we got the shed for free from came by today and bought some snowmobile bibs we had for sale. she saw it and was amazed.
I would love to see the look on the girls face when you pull up to her house to pick her up for a date on your trick tandem bike. LOL.then you can peddle her back to Scott's sled shed for some real fun
10-20-2009, 01:11 PM
Looks good! I know some of the guys give you a hard time on here, but I'm sure its all in good fun.
When I was growing up my friends and I liked working on projects and that has carried threw to today. I build 3 decks when I was 16. One On my house, one on my best friends house, and one for a friend of a friend, which I actually was paid for. Glad to see your doing some with your time and staying out of trouble!
10-20-2009, 04:11 PM
Ditto-lofsfire, It is good to see a young man with ambition. To take something that is trashed and turn it into something usefull is good to see. Keep up the good work Indy, you will go far in life.
10-20-2009, 04:30 PM
I actually sold the tandem bike. it was taking up too much room lol thanks for the compliments. the shed is awesome. i can't wait to get some pics of it with my sled inside!
I saw a free wood stove on this site lets get some heat in that shed
10-20-2009, 08:12 PM
i was thinking of pounding 2x4x6's into the ground like telephone poles and stretching an extension cord from the garage to the shed. i know my parents wouldn't let me do that though! lol
trench it with the leaves falling they will never know till spring
10-21-2009, 12:35 PM
lol that'd be a good one! but my dad would find out
10-21-2009, 01:03 PM
Tell him you will decorate the house for Christmas, and run a extra cord your way. Maybe even put Christmas lights on the shed then there is a reason for the power cord to be out there.
10-21-2009, 01:56 PM
lofsfire, my mom wanted to put xmas lights up that's a good idea. i probably will do that
10-21-2009, 02:21 PM
Jeez, heat, lights, next thing you know there will be a trail sign to "Scott's Bar & Grill". LOL
10-21-2009, 04:33 PM
lol that could happen!
10-21-2009, 08:39 PM
I didn't know they road sleds in Alabama! I love that tandem bike also, I want the front, cuz all you have to do is stear. Awsome thread man. Classic.
