just got back from minot from moving into the house and its crazy there, i met a guy that was there for 5 weeks and already bought a shop and a brand new truck, he tipped a pizza delivery guy $100 for delivering 4 pizzas, he said it took 1 night at a bar talking to contractors and he had work coming out his A$$ the very next day, i seen at least 75 houses under construction on tuesday and only seen 2 roofers, they cant find good help, anyone looking for work, find a house to rent and go there, im a project manager for a builder and i talked to a job sup that has been there since june and hes pulling in 3k a week, i need some of that green!

Anybody seriously thinking about going out there shouldn't listen to the people that say housing is "reasonably" priced. It IS true you'll be making big bucks - probably much more than around here, but housing is extremely limited and you'll be paying probably $20k-$30k even to rent. Don't believe me.... Google it.

It is short for hydraulic fracturing, and like whitedust said you pump water in, it is mixed with some chemicals, and you crack the rocks open and the oil flows out. In ND it is done about 10,000 feet (almost 2 miles) underground. The ND state legislature recently allocated one million dollars to fight the EPA on this if they move forward with trying to stop it. It has been done for over 40 years I believe but has been real popular in ND for about 5 or 6 years. The enviromentalists are worried about it contaminating the groundwater but at 10,000 feet it is way below any ground water areas.

As far as I know gravity pulls every thing down not up so way below our ground water supply. All goes down in a pipe & comes up in a pipe. Leave it to the EPA to screw things up 1st our 2s engines next hydraulic fracturing. lol If it is not broke why fix it & make all kinds of expensive design changes that makes something 10x as expensive & complex?

ND has the lowest unemployment rate in the U.S. - i have a few friends in the Minot area. They've said there is a comlpeted.... brand new Olive Garden that cannot open because they can't find the help! Also, he also said Taco Johns (which is your basic fast food taco bell type franchise) pays $15 per hour to make tacos! not to manage...TO MAKE TACOS - that is because it is so hard to find help. There are jobs that pay far better so even the lowest of paying jobs has to pay somewhat well. Lot's of jobs out there in ND. And someone else mentioned Tech jobs, they are absolutley right. Tons of tech companies moving out there. The state has also beefed up and brought in through smart governing some very good school teachers to attract and entice families to come out. They really are doing everything right. But it is brutally cold in winter, and i don't think they really get all that much snow, it just never melts throughout the season because it's so damn cold all winter long

I have a cousin that worked on the ground / landing crew for the space shuttle. After the last mission and landing he was laid off indefinitely because of the shuttle being decommissioned. He applied and was hired by Hallibuton, relocated to ND and started his training in less than 60 days!! He says they are very short handed in both white and blue collar departments, says average laborers are starting at over $100,000/yr with great benefits.
He also said its much colder than Cape Canaveral!! lol

I just got back last nite . while it is crazy out there to me it seemed just like big town living , only in a small town . I was in Williston visiting a friend and made a comment about arby's looking for help and the manager offered me a job at $15 an hour to start , I just wanted bacon on my burger LOL . I just may doo a few summers out there
