Good job,,,,glad to hear yaa had a good time,,,,they have shorten up the lenght of the race ,the early years yaa hit the crest and launched and your first time was hairy cause yaa didn't know what was on the other side.Used to run a 310 hp 1500 Tison mountain sled up there.

I wish the track went all the way to the top and you would have to launch across the finish. I was kinda hoping for that.

I also know that next time I run a sled in one of these races I will have picks. I think I was the only one with out them and came in 3rd. There was a ridiculous modified sled running in 700 mod but he could not get it started before the race.

Posting some pictures from the day. I don't think there was another Yamaha there besides the Nitro MTX tow vehicle.

Hello Chad ,Yes I raced and trail rode that sled from 00 to 07.Gave up trail riding it cause it got 3 mpg and ran a blend always had to strap two cans with race gas on the back.Stubbs and I had a blast back then runnig grass, ice and hilldrags.Heck we kept a set of crutches in the back of truck cause we used to get busted up.We raced Polaris with PSI motors for years. But I went with a boosted Doo.My last race was last year at a hilldrag in the Pocono's with the Doo and took a 2nd in the open unlimited class. Not bad for a old fat guy on the only trail sled in that class. Yaa have to give us more info on the "frieght train" so we can remember.Back in those racing days we where out to 4 am and up @ 6 yaa know.

The Freight Train was a Blue Yamaha, it was my custom built sno-x sled that my brother Kip love to take drag racing when I wasn't running sno-x with it. Little 788 SRX triple that use to upset a lot of big sleds! It was very light for a full suspension sled and transfered weight like no other. Sad part is that he never did anything besides load it and go, had he reclutched it probably would've rarely ever lost a race. I just recalled a guy at MQT Mtn. with a Tison Mtn. sled say he we just giving it enough gas to win, I got a kick out of it because in the final I think you grabbed ALL the throttle you could and just barely sqeezed past my old sno-x sled! Kinda wish I still had that sled, it was down right violent to ride!

Did you know the HP you were pulling with your mods? SRX triple motor were bullet proof platform IMHO.

Yes they were. Mine was estimated at 185hp and the sled only weighed 425 wet (10lbs under the legal weight that they never checked). The crank was 3.5lbs lighter than stock with zero run out, 788 big bore, custom Crank Shop triple pipes, mildly ported with a one piece head. Sled had a topend of around 80mph and It felt like it hit it in about 100ft! People use to describe the sound of it as being P@%*ED OFF!

I have a 2000 srx. I was going to bring it to the drags to but no picks there as well as my Viper. Pretty much stock except for Bender can. Motor is fresh (new rings and seals.) 12,000 U.P. miles on it.

I know a guy down the road that built a 99 srx and it has an all Bender motor in it. Pretty much no mileage to speak of and older adult driven. Last # I heard was 2000$. Im considering going this route and making it strictly drag.

I had a blast and will be entering more drag races next year. You think the srx is a good platform to work with that could do some winning in the 700 mod class?

I thought it was strange that I had the only Yamaha 2 stroke at the event. I think there was one apex.

The SRX is a great motor to build, tough as nails and has a great powerband, however, the stock chassis and skid arent the best for drag racing. The 2000-2002 SRX's is the year you want if you plan to race it, there much faster. If your interested I have a 2001 with a 1.25" Ripsaw track for $2,000. It's not perfect but not bad. One of the problems when trying to mod the SRX's were pipes. The stock pipes work better than most aftermarket pipes but are heavy. I went with the 700 triple Ski Doo Crank Shop pipes and had them sent in pieces then fitted them to my sled. If you can find one of the race CDI's you will want one for drag racing also since the stock CDI retards the timing after I THINK about 8300 RPM's. This wasn't a problem for me since I was racing sno-x.

No I'm not sure who said that, might have been the guy driving it that year. My brother was running his 800 Pro Stock that weekend but ended up parking it before the finals so he had a friend running mine in that class. Your sled did run strong though, not many sleds were able to catch up and go by the freight train.
