Default Looking for old outboard info

Well i've got this old 55 horse chrysler (1970) & cant seem to get water up to the powerhead. Anyway im looking for exploded views of such motor, think the water pump is out. Thanks in advance to someone who could steer me in the right direction.

Ok so I narrowed it down to a stuck thermostat, pulled the stat & now pumps water all the way around. Can I run like this or do i need the stat?

Run it but watch the temp until you find a new stat.

It will not over heat with thermostat out. It is when they stick shut you have the issue. The stat should be replaced or engine will run to cool. I suspect it takes a 170 degree stat. You may be able to cross reference a stat at NAPA if you can't find one.

Newer motors would have a problem without the thermo installed, but the older motors such as the one you have will run fine unless you intend to use it in very cold conditions. Those older machines sucked the juice, and had a very wide range of operation. If you can't find a thermo for that unit, you could modify one using an inline unit. You might have to set the low idle jets a bit fat...but so what.

But for summer running it will work just fine without it.

Yeah it semmed to be ok today, water temp @ 79* after about 1 1/2 inch of rain last night! But we killed the smallies. Upon removing the thermo I busted one of the bolts off in the head, it takes 3 but got buy with 2. Yea it leaked a little, but I cant believe how this thing runs. Oh yea the smallies are in the rocks 4-7 feet feeding on crayfish, south side between Wahkon, & Isle.

The thermostat is a 130 degree, I can get you a thermostat, gasket, and screw for a little over 21.00 plus shipping.
