I recently got into steelhead fishing. Come to find out that this can be done all year! I plan to do a little fishing in the UP on some snowmobile trips on some water that isn't froze.
Be sure to check the regulations as to which streams are open year around...a lot of them are closed from Oct 1 thru the last Saturday in April.
The best winter steelhead fishing is usually a couple of days after a warm-up. This will cause the ice to open up, and the fish get a bit more active. Even if the temps have cooled back down, it takes a couple of days for the water to do the same.

If you ever want to do a little fishing send me a PM. I'm always down for it!
I caught this nice 29" fish Saturday on one of our Ohio rivers. Since there's no cold, the rivers are totally open! I have to make the best of what we have. This is the biggest steelhead I've caught so far.
Usually don't have time to fish but would have to say I live in about the best area for Steelhead, Salmon, and walley.....St. Joe river in Southwest courner of michigan...brings them in from all over the united states when they are running for sure.

Does anyone else steelhead fish on this site?
You could probably fish the Two Hearted river right now in northern Luce Co. Good steelheading there. With the little to no snow we have, it should be quite accessible. If we don't get white stuff soon, that's where I'll be heading. River is open all year from the Reed and Green bridge to the river mouth.
I went 2 for 4 yesterday with this one being the highlight. I was able to leave the office a little early for a few hours of fishing. Blue bird sky but they were biting!
I troll for them on Lake michigan and we get them over on erie fishing for walleye. With us though, we fish for all the salmon species. Like said st Joe river is good at certain points of the year and also the area around baldwin MI like the pere marquette and manistee rivers I hear are excellent.
