My sled transformation timeline.
im super bored sitting around n decided to share my "build" i wanted a backcountry but my dealership didnt have one and I wasnt waiting. I enjoy "building" my own stuff besides. With a professional Motocross background and the love for off trail riding I wanted a versitle sled I could huck and boondock. at the time no one offered one, so I basically built the freeride, before the freeride LOL
the day I bought it. JANUARY 2010 ski doo renegade 800r adrenline.

first mods were to get rid of the grandpa windshield, white hand gaurds, white sly dog powderhounds, and put the 137x16-1.75 track on.

the summer of 2010 it got a huge make over with white plastic and lots of powdercoated parts. snow studs studs from johnmaster.net which i powdercoated the backers green. also added a REV race sled snow flap

finished

that setup lasted only 36 miles dec 2010... I was screwing around at the pit stop bar in greenland. i wheelied off the snowbank in the parking lot and this happened. THE SLED NEVER LEFT THE GROUND. NEVER POWDERCOAT RAILS!! I have 3 other friends who have bent a set after powdercoating, one being timner on this board from the kessler boys.

so after the whole rail bending fiasco I opted to go with a set of Ice Age Mfg custom 7000 series billet rails that are anodized black and offset for 8" wheels. I also put in their axle and 8" billet wheels. the ice age rails are OBVIOUSLY strengthened where the factory ones tend to bend. since the skid was out and i the shock was bent i put a 5/8" shock shaft rear shock and RS torsion springs in. Since the rails were now black the white skis didnt look right. i added a set of CURVE XS in black and white loop to try out.
*NOTE YES I DID PUT THE FRONT ARM IN UP SIDE DOWN AT FIRST.. DURRRR ME!!

I also removed the stock bars and added a Pro taper MX bend and fly risers. I always HATED! the stock control block on the handle bars these new sleds have. so I made my own harness out of the stock and a RS harness (lots of soldering!) and converted to the "RS" controls. making the "hot pipe" button the start/reverse much like the new freeride. I also swapped the white handgaurds for green ones and white deflectors.

how it sits now for this year. not done with it yet.

You think you saved money by doing it yourself? I bet it was worth it either way though, sounds like a fun experience. I would love to have the money and time to take on a project like that, maybe once I am out of this damn college.

Looks good Chris. You should bring that mud truck up for the Snodeo.

thanks guys. its never ending, im always tampering. as far as saving money.. im not sure... i got some good deals "knowing people" in the industry but id say it is pretty close to just buying one done from ski doo. the one thing i have MUCH better then the freeride is my rails. that was the biggest chunk of change coming in at $740 for billet axle, billet wheels, and rails. i also have the race sled shocks in the rear skid where i believe the freeride has "x package" shocks. the center shock was custom built from a guy in NY off dootalk. dootalk timner dootalk timner dootalk!! HA HA (inside joke)
Jim i wish i was coming next weekend... I have class for Generac next week 11-13th. really really BS sa i was told this last tues.. had vacation booked for that weekend.. otherwise that be awesome HA HA

Funny what a 350-400deg. bake cycle does to heat treated aluminum rails...annealing anyone?
