extension kits

anyone running ext. kits from tracks usa?any problems,would you recommend them or not

They have the best extension kit out there on the market. You can get SLP extensions and some others, they Tracks USA has form fitting, rail mirroring, extentions, that are stronger and look great. They don't look like a cheap fix. The guys there are great, and it's a wonderful company. I've been to their shop. It's littorally out on their family farm, in the shed. They do all the metal work themselves. I had one on my Fusion (121 to 144). Worked wonderfully. They are available for help as well if you need it. Wouldn't buy from anyone else.

Tell me more the extension your Fusion....what track you went with, what you use it for (trails or off-trail), how you like it, etc. I have a Fusion 600 I am thinking about extending over the summer. My 121" track is looking bad but I'm hoping it will get through this winter since I can't get out much this year. I'm thinking it would make a good crossover. Thanks.

I went with a 2" crossover track. Don't remember the exact brand name, but I bought it from TracksUSA with my extension kit. Prior to that, I was exclusively on the trails. But then we started going off trail in the UP, and that was the ticket. The tunnel extension was easy to put on as well. I painted it black to match the tunnel, and it looked good. It performed great. I did change the top gear to make sure I had enough torque for the added track weight, but not sure I would have even needed to do that. I just looked for the gears that the 600 RMK uses, and put that in. Obviously lost some top end speed, but the sled performed great. It led me into getting an RMK and staying strictly off trail. Now I'm on a 155 and love it. Heading to Colorado the end of the month. I wouldn't hesitate to do it. Was awesome for me.

Thanks for the info. Was it still manageable on the trail that way? I imagine you might need some scratchers with a 2" track.

Yes, it was good on the trails. The extensions tip up, so it makes it easier on the trail. You'll feel a little difference, but not too much. More from losing studs (if you have them) than from the length. You'll notice the quicker take off too from the extra track and lug on the ground. Definitely want to get scratchers. And my suggestion are the cable type called "slidekicks". They can just be left down no matter where you are, or if you go in reverse etc.. The cheaper spring hard ones, if forgotten when backing, will turn to scrap quick, and can get bent up into your track and suspension sometimes.

I have an 06 x-fire that I extended to 144", got the rail extensions through my dealer from Ole's Machine. Very exact fitting, you can't tell by looking that it is extended. The nice thing with this length choice, I did not have to extend the tunnel. The track is a Camoplast Challanger 2", world of difference from anything less. Nice set up for the backwoods as well as the trail when needed.-Mezz

great info guys,thanks! I'm looking at getting a 2005 144(factory)700 poo. I will def get the cable scratchers!should I consider a temp gauge? never had a paddle(it's 2")and wondering if theres anything else I'll need to do for the trails? so I dont have overheating,sticking hi-fax or......??

Snake i got a 144 with 2" on my '12 assault and over new years we rode forest roads with 4-6in of snow only and had no over heat issues...I would just do scratchers if youll be running any plowed forest roads or super hard pack trails. I dont have any scratchers yet but when we were in twin lakes last we rode some plowed roads south of there and my sled ran 10-15 degrees hotter then my buddies 155 with scratchers

Hmm, i think the 2005 RMK 700 is an edge chasis, so you'll only have a light to indicate over heat. Using a guage with actual temp on it would be helpful just to know you need to do something, but if you just remember to hit some snow on the sides sometimes, usually you are fine. Otherwise, I'm sure you'll be good. Have fun!
