09 Switchback rev limiter?
I bought a 09 switchback and 1st took it out this weekend. It ran great, but when I pinched the throttle tight for a long period of time (mph about 70) it would stall or more like a rev limiter was kicking in. If I let off gas a little and went like 3/4 throttle it would be ok, as soon I pinched it tight again it would do it again. Any idea would be appreciated. I came off a 94 Vmax so not real sure how this would react.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this could be anything. Clutching, Fuel Delivery, or Electrical... Could even be a stuck powervalve. What kind of RPMs are you pulling full throttle?
-
My 09 shift 136 did that when I first got it, took it in and there was a clutch update on the secondary the dealer did, fixed it. I think it was a duralon washer and a different helix
-
Delrin washer you mean? If you don't have one installed already and have a team clutch, I would recommend installing one. They reduce binding and area $5 or less... Never knew there was an update for it, that would be a good start!
-
Not a clue of what or where this washer would go, little more detail would be appreciated.
-
Ya , delrin, well the dealer called it a update and did change the helix too, don't remember the #'s, and did not charge me a dime, maybe because I buy all my sleds from him or because it was warrentee? IDK.
coulnd't find a picture,

The information on the SLP web site now tells you that:
One delrin washer is placed between the moveable sheave and (Polaris part# 7556227 WASHER-THRUST which is also called) the 'spring cup'

Just my .02...
But I would 1st start by pulling the power-valves and make sure they are clean and functioning properly.
POO's are notorious for gumming up PV's.

Was out looking at sled today , I opened up the hood and to my surprize there was a rust color, now dried liquid splattered in front of one of the cylinders. It looks to have come out of the hole on plastic cone ( I take is power valve?) Other then holding throttle wide open for a period of time the sled ran great no pops, misses anything it ran good. That was my 1st time out with the sled since I bought I hope it doesnt end up being a nightmare! I looks to have been taking good care of very clean. I was reading on another forum and someone has mentioned clutch weights maybe wrong? Sled was registered in Idaho & WI. I could hammer it and it wouldn't miss a beat up until around 70mph.

You need a new bellows for the power valve.

Probably not, but he might need a new spring.

Bellows? spring? I know very little about this sled.

Reason: New to the picture deal :-)

Rusty spring.... you need to get some springs & bellows & gaskets. Even if you don't need to replace them now ( except the spring ) you will need them in the future. Trust me on this one. The bellows run about $24 OEM and 17-18 AM. Always good to have some spare gaskets around also.

There could be a bad bellows in that exhaust valve, but I don't think that would cause a stall like he is talking about, a stuck valve would make it doggy and not go to top speed as normal, I would check and clean the valves, of course, but still think it is the secondary clutch, that is was what it was with mine and sounds exactly what mine did. If there is oil on the outside when you pull the cover off, there is a ripped bellows.

Went out this weekend and I could get the rpm to 8000 once in awhile. I could hold it at 7250rpm with no problem, try to get more then that and it would bog. Sled is at my house.

Ever figure out this problem? My '08 600 Switchback did exactly the same thing this last weekend.

Got my '08 back from the repair shop tonight with no conclusive answer. Power valves and clutch checked out fine. They're thinking possibly spark plugs or fuel pressure (need to run it at speed with a gauge connected to know for sure). Anyone believe spark plugs could cause this type of behavior? More likely fuel pressure related?

I have seen motors act this way with spark plug failure misfire on my seadoo di but never on a sled. On sled they seem to just die, but on the seadoo we always thought it was a bigger issue and always ended up being the plugs. seadoo is a 2001 rxdi (for sale by the way), this was early di technology.
