Polaris Voltage Variation

I have a Polaris Fronter Classic and the voltage is varying (lights go dim). I suspect the voltage regulator but it could be the load shed module also . I am asking for any experience any one may have had with this. I know there are very few Fronter Classic sleds out there but I believe Polaris used the same electrical system on other models. Has anyone lost the voltage regulator or load shed module.

Hey Ed remember me lol? probably the only other guy with a Frontier Classic 04's x2 it's the load shed, had the same problem with both of mine your losing ground, look on the loadshed, headlights are brown/yellow, handwarmers/thumbwarmers are brown/red hook em up to a ground and everything will work just fine I've been running the lights like this for 2 seasons and no problems, just had the handwarmers go out and it was the same thing rerouted the brown/red wire to ground and warmers run good. At 125.00 a pop these things can get really expensive and it seems like they go out regularly. The loadshed reduces the ground to 30% when load is under 100 hertzs but cranks it up to 100% ground when 100 hertzs.

Yes I remember the last time we discussed the Fronter Classic, thanks for the insight on the load shed module, the voltage regulator is no longer available thru Babbits. Have you ever replaced a load shed module? Can I splice on to the brown and yellow wire and run to ground or should I cut it and by pass the module? My preference would be to splice on if it would work. I see a brown and yellow wire coming out of the module is this the one? There is a junction plug below,hard to see without taking things apart. If I have to go below, my first choice would be to replace module since you have to dismount everything. I guess if it lasted 7 years and it made it another seven the sled would be an antique and quailify for restoration.

I don't think you want to splice the ground to the loadshed cuz it's what's inside that's not working. I cut the wire as short as I could to the module, added piece of wire (to make it reach) bolted it to the ground bolt on the back of the frame assembly. Brown/Yellow is the lights, Brown/Red is the thumb & handwarmers or you buy another they run about 125.00, replacing it is easy unscrew the bracket bolts to give you room to work on it, take off the 2 bolts holding it on the bracket & unplug it from the old module.

Thanks for the info, we are probably the only two people with these left. The machine runs good except for this current small problem and is perfect for my needs. Can't get anything for them so I have to keep it going. Certainly cheaper then buying new, 10G plus, with no snow makes it hard to spend the money.

Check out www.alssnomobile.com website for parts you can't get they buy wrecked & insurance sleds, strip em & sell the parts. The website kinda sucks but if you give em a call an 800 number it will be alot less frustrating than the website is.
